Some translations say “of everything,” but that everything was from the spoils of what Abraham captured in the warfare encounter. 1) The word for everything is mer-id'-zo in Greek and means “a share.” 2) Abraham did not go home, collect a tenth of what was at his home base and come back and give Mel a tenth. That is not what happened [V. 4]. 10% of their “produce.” B) The tithe came before the law. Get over it. You are not under the law, but you and I are under the obligation to reflect God. God is a giver. All the way down to sacrifice. If we were honest, we would prefer the law because “less” is expected than is we give like God.
