Section 1

Jeremiah’s calling demonstrates how closely our thoughts and words can work together. When the young prophet responded to God by saying he could not speak because he was too young, the Lord directly told him not to say that. Dr. Dave emphasizes that this is not about positive confession or pretending difficulties do not exist; it is about bringing our speech into alignment with biblical truth. Words can communicate life or death not only to others but also to ourselves. Constantly declaring that we are incapable, worthless, or unable to do what God asks can reinforce the very thinking Scripture tells us to confront. Believers do not need to speak cheerfully every moment, but they should speak biblically, remembering that Christ supplies strength for whatever God genuinely calls them to face.

Section 2

Shane’s call provided a practical example of seeking God’s direction rather than assuming every situation has one universal Christian response. Following a serious head-on collision, Shane explained that although he could pursue additional legal action against the other driver, he believed God was moving his heart not to do so. Dr. Dave carefully distinguished brotherly spiritual counsel from legal advice and encouraged Shane to seek agreement with his wife and, above everything else, follow the Lord’s leading. Sometimes pursuing compensation may be appropriate; another situation may call someone to release it. The issue is obedience rather than constructing a rule that everyone must follow. Their conversation ended appropriately in prayer, asking God to guide Shane and his wife into exactly the attitude, decision, and direction He desires for them.

Section 3

Scripture brings the message together by connecting what happens within the heart with what comes through the mouth. Romans 10 joins believing with confessing, while Psalm 19 asks that both the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts please God. First John then provides the truth believers can use against the grasshopper mentality: we are children of God. That identity is not permission to demand riches, success, or whatever we want; it is biblical truth to stand upon when the enemy, the world, or our own flesh tells us we are insignificant or defeated. Christians are God’s workmanship, loved by the Father and covered by Christ. Lies should therefore be answered with what Scripture actually says. You are not a grasshopper trying to convince yourself you matter; you are a child of the Most High God because He says that is what you are.
