Trust becomes difficult when we keep trying to steer circumstances that belong in God’s hands. Dr. Dave’s devotional, “Stop Trying to Steer the Boat,” uses the disciples in the storm to remind believers that Jesus is neither absent nor unaware of what is happening. Like Abraham offering Ishmael as an alternative plan, Christians sometimes ask God to bless the backup plans they have created instead of trusting His direction. That same struggle appears in Numbers 13 when ten spies saw themselves as grasshoppers before the giants. Their perception eventually influenced their words, their faith, and their actions. Biblical thinking is not positive-thinking psychology; it means deliberately setting the mind upon God’s kingdom and refusing to allow fear to redefine who we are or what God has promised.

Spiritual warfare involves recognizing that thoughts themselves can become a battleground. Second Corinthians describes weapons powerful through God for destroying strongholds, casting down imaginations, and bringing thoughts into obedience to Christ. The enemy wants believers imagining themselves as powerless grasshoppers until they begin living according to that lie. Yet falling into wrong thinking does not mean quitting; righteous people get back up and continue forward. Peter understood that when others abandoned Jesus after difficult teaching. His response was essentially, “Where else can we go?” because Christ alone possesses the words of eternal life. Dr. Dave stresses keeping Christianity simple: Jesus is the way, truth, life, light, and door. When the mind becomes complicated, distracted, or deceived, believers return to Christ and allow Scripture to renew their thinking.

The Christian mind requires regular spiritual housecleaning because pressure comes from several directions: our flesh, the world system, and the enemy all compete to influence how we think. Dr. Dave describes the daily battleground as the space between our ears, where thoughts become decisions and decisions move us toward one kingdom or another. That makes what we continually consume enormously important. Saturating ourselves with fear, accusations, negativity, or endless worldly noise can reshape our thinking, while Scripture helps us recognize what God actually says. Believers should therefore reject labels such as “I’m a failure” when they contradict biblical truth and recognize the enemy’s role as an accuser. Our minds need more than happy thoughts; they need God’s truth. The enemy wants you thinking like a grasshopper; God calls you to bring every thought into obedience to Christ.
