The David Spoon Experience 4-21-23 Part 1
A) Moving on in the Hall of Fame of faith, we start to look at the walls of Jericho. It’s not a coincidence that the next element of faith involves walls. The rock band Kansas had a song called the wall was written by Terry Livgren, who is a Christian. How do I know he was? Besides hanging out with my brother in Christian fellowship, I have talked with him personally.
B) The bottom lyrics to the song go like this: To pass beyond is what I seek; I fear that I may be too weak, And those are few who've seen it through to glimpse the other side, The promised land is waiting like a maiden that is soon to be a bride. That’s right. It’s all about getting past the wall. What gets us past the wall? Our faith brings the walls down.
C) And how much faith did Joshua have to have that, instead of approaching Jericho like the military man he was, God requested him to march around the city and play music? For six days, no words whatsoever. And then on the 7th day, bammo. It makes me what to Shout. There are not a lot of military strategies that would fit this mold, except the military strategy of Trust in God and Walk by Faith.
D) I don’t want a short-change Rahab because she deserves plenty of recognition. Not only is she involved in the genealogy of Christ, but she is a key component as to why Israel prevailed. And she was moved by faith. She wasn’t exactly Ms. Squeaky Clean, but she was exactly the person God wanted.
