The David Spoon Experience 3-23-23 Part 2
1) In Paul’s discourse, the Holy Spirit leads him to connect Old Testament passages directly to Jesus. This strategy is exceedingly effective for people who believe in the Old Testament. This strategy is exceedingly effective for those who don’t believe in the Old or New Testament. How? Because in Jesus Christ, the veil is taken away. And the proclamation of the truth “opens the doors” to the “opening of the minds,” which can ONLY be done by God Himself.
2) Certain passages shed more light than other passages in relation to the application. Paul connects the principles of the resurrection and eternal life from the Old to the New and then illustrates whom it all points to… Jesus. Before, the temple-goers heard these verses. But now, in Jesus, they SEE THE PERSONALIZATION of the passages for their own life. Jesus brought life and immortality to light for humanity through the Gospels.
3) The summation of this section leads to the most important fundamental in hermeneutics or the method of interpretation. Get this: Without fail, the New Testament explains the Old Testament, not the other way around. In the New Testament, we find that the Emmanuel of the Old Testament is understood in the person of Jesus Christ, BECAUSE of the New Testament. Paul closes with a warning about not neglecting this presentation of truth. Sadly, this still happens.
