12-31-24 part 1: The Power of Reflection: Holding On to What Matters and Releasing What Hurts

Today’s discussion focuses on the challenge of letting go of the past and the importance of embracing hope as we head into a new year. Dr. David Spoon and Nick delve into the struggle many face when reminiscing about better times while grappling with the burdens of past experiences. They emphasize the distinction between holding onto cherished memories that uplift our spirits and releasing the negative thoughts that weigh us down. The conversation highlights the necessity of recognizing what truly matters—focusing on the grace and blessings of the present rather than dwelling on disappointments. With heartfelt stories and insights, the hosts encourage listeners to adopt an attitude of gratitude and to prepare for the great things that lie ahead in their spiritual journeys.

Navigating the complex terrain of memory and faith, this episode features Dr. David Spoon and Nick as they tackle the topic of letting go of the past. The conversation opens with an exploration of how memories shape our identities, with particular attention to the struggles many face when trying to move beyond past experiences. Drawing from Philippians 3:13, Nick emphasizes the importance of pressing forward, inviting listeners to reflect on their own histories and the emotional baggage they carry. The dialogue is enriched with humor and personal anecdotes, making it accessible and relatable, particularly for those who find themselves caught in cycles of nostalgia and regret.

As the discussion unfolds, the hosts pivot to the role of technology in modern relationships, critiquing the isolating effects of social media. Nick passionately advocates for restoring in-person interactions to foster genuine connections, highlighting the need for community in a world where digital communication often prevails. This segment of the podcast resonates deeply, serving as a reminder of the value of shared experiences and the emotional bonds formed through face-to-face conversations. The blend of humor and serious reflection creates a balanced atmosphere, encouraging listeners to reassess their own social habits and the impact of technology on their lives.

In the latter part of the episode, the focus shifts towards the importance of prayer and spiritual resilience. Dr. Spoon’s experiences as a journalist in challenging environments lend authenticity to the conversation about hope and healing. The hosts engage in a heartfelt prayer, asking listeners to embrace the positive aspects of their past while letting go of negativity. This powerful moment encapsulates the episode's core message: while the past can be painful, it does not have to dictate the future. As the episode wraps up, listeners are left with a sense of hope and a call to action to foster gratitude and faith in their lives as they step into the new year.

Takeaways:

  • Letting go of the past is crucial for personal growth and spiritual health, as reflected in Philippians 3:13.

Nick:

Philippians 3:13.

Nick:

Do we have a hard time letting go of the past?

Nick:

Let me just point this out to you very briefly.

Nick:

You know what you can do about yesterday?

Nick:

Nothing.

Nick:

Let's keep that in mind.

Nick:

We'll tell you what that's for.

Nick:

We do have somebody on the line and so we'll figure out what's going on first.

Nick:

So let's have that person come on through.

Nick:

Knock, knock.

Nick:

This is David, who might talking to.

Dr. David Spoon:

Hi, how are you?

Nick:

Great.

Nick:

How am I.

Nick:

Who am I talking to?

Dr. David Spoon:

This is Nick.

Nick:

Hi.

Dr. David Spoon:

In Van Zant county.

Dr. David Spoon:

And he's talking about living in the past.

Dr. David Spoon:

I'm 67 years old and I'm, I'm terrible about just constantly living in the past.

Dr. David Spoon:

My wife even gets on to me for, for it sometimes.

Dr. David Spoon:

But it's been, it's, it's like I say, I just, I remember mostly growing up in the good times and, and how people were so much more friendlier and that we didn't have social media and people could talk to each other more instead of texting them and.

Dr. David Spoon:

But I just, I have so many great memories about it.

Dr. David Spoon:

But as far as politics and, you know, what's happened in the past, there, I'm not, you know, I'm glad for the turnout.

Dr. David Spoon:

I'm very happy for the turnout that's happened.

Dr. David Spoon:

But I try, I do try to stay away from politics personally.

Dr. David Spoon:

And, you know, as far as thinking about that kind of past, I'm more of a thinking about the past of, of simple times.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I just, you know, that gives that.

Dr. David Spoon:

I don't think I think about it too much.

Dr. David Spoon:

Sometimes I think it just helps me relax.

Dr. David Spoon:

And a lot of times I think about it.

Dr. David Spoon:

When I go to bed at night, after I say my prayers, I always, you know, just kind of reminisce of mom and dad.

Dr. David Spoon:

I've lost two, three.

Dr. David Spoon:

Two brothers and a sister like, almost in a row with cancer.

Dr. David Spoon:

And, you know, it's just like.

Dr. David Spoon:

It does Change your life.

Dr. David Spoon:

1.

Dr. David Spoon:

One of my brothers was my twin.

Dr. David Spoon:

And it's every day I think about a day don't go by that I don't think and miss them and the times we all had together.

Dr. David Spoon:

Sometimes I get so tickled at some of the things I remember us doing as kids.

Nick:

Yeah.

Dr. David Spoon:

You know, it's a one wonder we're still alive.

Dr. David Spoon:

You know, some of the chances we took and, you know, everybody's so cautious with their children now and everything.

Dr. David Spoon:

I mean, we had the yard darts, and those were the real yard darts with the metal ends, you know, and things like that.

Dr. David Spoon:

And just.

Dr. David Spoon:

It just.

Dr. David Spoon:

It brings me joy.

Dr. David Spoon:

So, I mean, I don't.

Dr. David Spoon:

I can't say maybe I do think about it a lot.

Dr. David Spoon:

I don't verbally say it a lot, but a lot of times, you know, my wife and I'll be sitting on the couch and I'll bring up things.

Dr. David Spoon:

And she said, you've already told me about that, so hopefully I'm not going to see now.

Nick:

Well, here's.

Nick:

You bring up an excellent point, Nick.

Nick:

So let's talk about that.

Nick:

So there are things that you want to hold on to.

Nick:

So that's why the Lord created.

Nick:

In the Old Testament, specifically, there was memorials.

Nick:

And those memorials are things to look back at to recognize the things that the Lord has done and those things we're supposed to hang onto.

Nick:

But then you brought up the other part of that which is equally important.

Nick:

That is certain things we need to let go of.

Nick:

I mean, when you're getting into all of the things, the way that things have become in social media and the way that people are going after one another and how digging it is and how people are essentially just, as Scripture says, ripping and tearing each other apart.

Nick:

It's important to understand there are some things to just go, you know what?

Nick:

I just not gonna even.

Nick:

I'm not gonna sit in that.

Nick:

I'm not gonna dwell on that.

Nick:

It's kind of like the things that the Lord has done in our past, those great memories, those things that give us hope.

Nick:

That's a place to be.

Nick:

Cause, you know, the grace of God was abounding there.

Nick:

Those other things it's like falling off a horse and just lying in the manure and just doing nothing.

Nick:

And it's like that.

Nick:

You don't want to do that at all.

Nick:

Get out of that stuff.

Nick:

That's crazy.

Nick:

So when it's great, you hang onto it.

Nick:

When it's damaging, when it's discouraging, when it's contrary, and when it pollutes, you let go of it.

Nick:

Don't hang into that stuff because that's what the enemy will try to use to pull us down.

Nick:

While those other things.

Dr. David Spoon:

That is exactly.

Dr. David Spoon:

That is so right.

Dr. David Spoon:

Because now that you've said that over something that does get in my.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I, you know, I had a.

Dr. David Spoon:

When I worked for many years and I had a boss and I won't go in detail, but I had a boss that just used me and worked me like a mule.

Dr. David Spoon:

And it was so hard for me to.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I was raising two daughters by myself at that time, during this was in the early 90s.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I just keep.

Dr. David Spoon:

A lot of times and I try to quit, not think about it, but I resent the way I was treated by that person.

Dr. David Spoon:

And it was just.

Dr. David Spoon:

I felt like they just like.

Dr. David Spoon:

So that's.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's a hard thing to let go to.

Dr. David Spoon:

I couldn't even get a vacation.

Dr. David Spoon:

I mean, I was only a one person running this whole work part.

Dr. David Spoon:

I didn't even have a helper.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I was a maintenance technician.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I was like, you know, it's just.

Dr. David Spoon:

But I had kids to raise.

Dr. David Spoon:

I couldn't fuss or tell them what I thought about them because I didn't want to lose my job.

Nick:

Right.

Dr. David Spoon:

Two daughters.

Dr. David Spoon:

And so I do.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's something I try to not think about because when I do, it does get me, you know, get me pretty worked up.

Nick:

Yeah.

Dr. David Spoon:

That person, that person at the age she was at that time, she's.

Dr. David Spoon:

She's probably gone now to be the Lord.

Dr. David Spoon:

But.

Dr. David Spoon:

But like I say things like that, I want to try to keep out of my mind.

Nick:

Exactly.

Nick:

Exactly.

Dr. David Spoon:

I try to keep not but positive.

Dr. David Spoon:

I just try to stay positive.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I just wish more of the world would socialize in person instead of on cell phones.

Nick:

Yeah, I think it's a great point.

Dr. David Spoon:

Technology.

Nick:

I think it's a great point.

Nick:

And the technology.

Nick:

And I know technology keeps people at a distance.

Nick:

It's kind of like, you got it.

Nick:

You can stay safe and unknown and unfortunately, unaccountable, which is not a good thing either.

Nick:

And so the idea behind that is exactly what you said.

Nick:

You want to hang on to that.

Nick:

Which Blesses you, you want to dump that which hurts you.

Nick:

And there's nothing you can do about those things that those people did in the past.

Nick:

Zero.

Nick:

It's like it's over.

Nick:

And so only visiting that does nothing but deflate yourself.

Nick:

So it's like as we head into this year, all those great things that God did for you throughout the entire year, not just, you know, in the past, but in this last year, these great things that God has done, those are the gold, those are the portraits, those are the things that we hold onto with all our might.

Nick:

The other things that came against us, we just let them go.

Nick:

Go ahead.

Dr. David Spoon:

Believe it or not, I'm actually a news reporter, but I work for a TV station in Tyler.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's how I got my start and photojournalism.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I've traveled all over to disasters all over the country.

Dr. David Spoon:

I've been at many fatality car wrecks right here in our county covering them.

Dr. David Spoon:

And you know, I've seen so many over the years and it's a state of mind you got to get to.

Dr. David Spoon:

But I'm, you know, not trying to be graphic, but I've seen some, I've seen some horrific things while out covering these stories and, and some very sad things and got to know all the first responders here and the flight nurses on Flight for Life.

Dr. David Spoon:

They're such an awesome group.

Dr. David Spoon:

I've done photo shoots of them and their chopper and everything.

Dr. David Spoon:

But like I say, you know, I've actually stood with a highway patrol beside the vehicles when the roads are blocked off and watching them pull these deceased people out and lay them on the gurney when the funeral home's there.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I think about, I just was hope they were ready to meet our Lord and Savior.

Nick:

Amen.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's all I can do is pray for them.

Dr. David Spoon:

But when you've seen that for 20 something years, you know, but I love our page.

Dr. David Spoon:

We, we put it together here in Van Zandt county and it's just, we've got thousands of followers and it's just.

Dr. David Spoon:

But reporting, I love reporting.

Dr. David Spoon:

Always having photography is one of my favorite things.

Dr. David Spoon:

And like I say, even at 67, which I will actually be 67 in a few days and but just, but seeing what I've seen in 20 years and disasters I've gone to hurricane, I've gone to.

Dr. David Spoon:

I went to Katrina and I went down there and covered that disaster.

Dr. David Spoon:

I went to Hurricane Ike and covered that disaster.

Dr. David Spoon:

I was down there when everything was so demolished.

Dr. David Spoon:

Then I went to the storm, tornado that he had dropped from them.

Nick:

Let me do this.

Nick:

Nick, you still there?

Nick:

Uh.

Nick:

Oh.

Nick:

I think we might have lost.

Nick:

Nick.

Nick:

Nick.

Nick:

Nick.

Nick:

Nick.

Nick:

Nick.

Nick:

Wait, wait, wait.

Nick:

No, I want to pray over Nick.

Nick:

So I don't know where he went.

Nick:

Ask him to ask if he.

Nick:

Nick, you got disconnected.

Nick:

Just give us a call back.

Nick:

And here's one of the things that we want to do is I want to pray over Nick so that he holds on to the things that were good.

Nick:

He's seen a lot of tough things, a lot of bad things, and sometimes those wash over you.

Nick:

And, you know, a lot of us have gone through a lot of tough things, been through a lot of hard things, and it washes over us and it leaves imprints.

Nick:

And so I just want to pray.

Nick:

As we're going into this next year, we need to.

Nick:

And this is exactly what I want to talk about.

Nick:

We are in just this serious need to go.

Nick:

You know what?

Nick:

It's been a lot of turmoil, a lot of frustration.

Nick:

We got a lot of things that people are looking forward to.

Nick:

I'm going to share something that we're looking forward to.

Nick:

And it's really, really important for us to grasp that the things that pull us down are not things that we're supposed to build monuments to.

Nick:

So, Nick, if you can call back, you got disconnected, so give us a call back.

Nick:

I want to pray over you.

Nick:

But it's just important for us to recognize as we go into this year how we approach the Lord and one another and with our faith.

Nick:

I'm going to share something with you in the second 60 minutes that happened to me today that threw me for a curve.

Nick:

So I'm going to share it with you.

Nick:

It's extremely positive.

Nick:

But it's like, wow, was not looking at that, was not seeing that.

Nick:

And then the Lord kind of brought it into my lap.

Nick:

And we're going to discuss that.

Nick:

But I want you to catch what's going on.

Nick:

There are some things that you went through this last year.

Nick:

You should hold on to them.

Nick:

You should.

Nick:

You know how Nick was a photograph journalist.

Nick:

You want to keep that photograph in your mind of those gracious things, those moments, those tender moments where the Lord, by the power of the Holy Spirit, gave you this knowledge that you're like, I'm covered.

Nick:

And he did that through the redeeming work of Jesus Christ.

Nick:

And so you just got to, like, wow.

Nick:

That you want to hang on to.

Nick:

But the things that hurt you, that stabbed at you, that tried to take away your oxygen, do not build monuments to those.

Nick:

Do not idolize Those do not make them a regular part of your meditation.

Nick:

This is what Paul's talking about when he says, I do not count myself as to apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to the things which are ahead.

Nick:

And there is stuff that is coming that is awesome.

Nick:

At a minimum, we are closing in on the return of Jesus Christ and the change that we all so long for and so hunger for.

Nick:

And so again, Nick, if you're hearing this, please call back.

Nick:

Let me pray over you, brother.

Nick:

I want to pray over you.

Nick:

Got disconnected.

Nick:

That's a bummer.

Nick:

But that does happen, so that's only because our equipment's a little old.

Nick:

It's okay.

Nick:

Bottom line is this, as you head into this new year, as you do that, there are things that the Lord has done for you that changed you.

Nick:

God gave me so many graces.

Nick:

Jesus was so kind.

Nick:

I know he's praying for me.

Nick:

Bible says he's at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us in Romans.

Nick:

And it's like, I need that.

Nick:

So much kindness from the Lord, so much graciousness from the Lord.

Nick:

Whatever we do, as we head into this year, I'll tell you one thing we all better have, and that is the attitude of gratitude.

Nick:

Being appreciative of the goodness and the kindness and the compassion.

Nick:

God let you survive, let you thrive, let you move forward in a hundred ways.

Nick:

So I want you to just be aware of that attitude, that spirit, that approach unto the Lord.

Nick:

He's going to do marvelous, marvelous things this year.

Nick:

But while we're processing to have that attitude of faith and gratitude, that's what the Lord wants from us.

Nick:

Now.

Nick:

Is Nick back on the line by chance?

Nick:

All right, bring him back on.

Nick:

All right.

Nick:

All right.

Nick:

Nick, is that you returning on the call?

Nick:

Is that you, brother?

Nick:

Okay, I'm back, buddy.

Nick:

Okay.

Nick:

I want to pray over you.

Nick:

Okay.

Nick:

Is that cool?

Dr. David Spoon:

That's great.

Nick:

Let's do it.

Nick:

Let's pray right now.

Nick:

Father, we come before you right now, and I thank you for my brother Nick.

Nick:

I've not had a chance to meet him face to face, but, Lord, you always arrange those things.

Nick:

And we have great confidence in you for things of that nature.

Nick:

And right now, I'm lifting him up before you.

Nick:

And, Lord, I thank you for his call.

Nick:

I thank you for his honesty.

Nick:

And here's what I want, Lord.

Nick:

Here's what I'm praying for, as he is my brother, in you.

Nick:

You're our dad.

Nick:

We are blood relatives through Jesus Christ we drink of one holy Spirit we know, Lord.

Nick:

And what I'm praying for him is that he will actually have this incredible gift from you crystallizing these awesome things that have taken place over this last year.

Nick:

Just things that you've shown him, that you've been within him, that you've whispered to him, that you've revealed to him and comforted him in and just put your arms around him and Lord, for those other things that take away, Lord, that he would.

Nick:

He'd get a little bit of old man in him and start forgetting those things and what was that again?

Nick:

And just start letting that stuff go.

Nick:

And it would just seep out the other end while he's filling his heart and mind with these glorious things that you've done for him, with him, through him.

Nick:

And to him.

Nick:

We ask you to bless his:

Nick:

All to your glory.

Nick:

And people go, what's going on?

Nick:

And he would just go, it's the Lord.

Nick:

Bless him in that.

Nick:

Let him be that testimony that witness.

Nick:

Pour it upon him.

Nick:

Lord, we thank you for him and ask you to bless him in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Nick:

Amen and amen.

Dr. David Spoon:

Amen.

Nick:

Amen, my brother.

Nick:

Thank you for calling in.

Nick:

Oh, great talking with you as well, my friend.

Nick:

Awesome.

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay, stay safe and happy New Year.

Nick:

All right.

Nick:

God bless you, my friend.

Dr. David Spoon:

God bless you.

Nick:

Bye bye, bye bye.

Nick:

All right.

Nick:

See, now that's what the show is about.

Nick:

That's what we like.

Nick:

Yes, I do like the teachings, and yes, I got a bazillion of them.

Nick:

Why?

Nick:

Well, let's see.

Nick:

I've told you before.

Nick:

I was born and raised Jewish and I became a Christian.

Nick:

I have a Baptist ordination, a charismatic ordination, a Pentecostal ordination, and in my Jewish heritage, I say two Jews, three opinions.

Nick:

If that offends you, you're not Jewish.

Nick:

So here's what I'm trying to tell you.

Nick:

I got a lot to say, but what you have to say is just as important, if not more important than what I have to say.

Nick:

And what we all have to say is nothing compared to what the Lord has to say.

Nick:

Now we got another praise report.

Nick:

Jeanette was not doing very well.

Nick:

She'd been prayed for.

Nick:

Her pastor, her local pastor gave them some scriptures.

Nick:

She's really having a struggle.

Nick:

She's been having a struggle with migraine and some other things.

Nick:

Guess what?

Nick:

She got some prayer.

Nick:

She's doing so much better.

Nick:

That's what prayer does.

Nick:

That's why we give you the phone numbers.

Nick:

That's why we give you the text.

Nick:

That's why we give you the email.

Nick:

Why?

Nick:

So that we can pray for you.

Nick:

Yeah.

Nick:

Or so that you can share a testimony, or so you can share a scripture.

Nick:

Or you can just talk with your brothers and sisters.

Nick:

How many tribes in Israel?

Nick:

How many tribes?

Nick:

How many tribes?

Nick:

12.

Nick:

What is it called?

Nick:

Israel.

Nick:

What do we got in the body of Christ?

Nick:

We have the head.

Nick:

That's Christ.

Nick:

What do we have?

Nick:

Different parts of the body.

Nick:

Different.

Nick:

Doing different things.

Nick:

This year needs to be a real good focus for all of us.

Nick:

Having a one mind, one accord.

Nick:

This is about Jesus attitude.

Nick:

It's not about what we're lining our pockets with or our lives with.

Nick:

It's how we're honoring the Lord and loving one another and carrying one another's burdens and caring about other people.

Nick:

That is how you fulfill the law of Christ.

Nick:

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Nick:

That's what it teaches in Galatians 2.

Nick:

That's what we need.

Nick:

Galatians 6:2.

Nick:

What we need is that attitude, that spirit.

Nick:

So going into this year, I'm just telling you right now, pick it up on your heart, pick it up on your mind.

Nick:

I'm gonna say before the Lord, help me to do a better job loving other people.

Nick:

Jesus said, here's a new commandment.

Nick:

Love one another as I have loved you.

Nick:

Start asking the Lord to help you to love people the way Jesus loved them.

Nick:

How about that?

Nick:

You know what?

Nick:

That's going to require Selflessness.

Nick:

What you mean be like Jesus and come to serve and not be served.

Nick:

I'm glad I'm not being sarcastic there.

Nick:

Get it?

Nick:

Yeah.

Nick:

Okay.

Nick:

I know we were going to do Matthew.

Nick:

That just didn't work out today.

Nick:

We'll do Matthew next week.

Nick:

I mean, I got it all together.

Nick:

It'll be a really cool teaching, but we're not doing it right now.

Nick:

Here's what I want you to be aware of.

Nick:

We tell you this on a regular basis because we actually believe this.

Nick:

We're dumb enough to have a little bit of faith to believe it.

Nick:

There are great things that are coming.

Nick:

There are great things that the Lord is going to do.

Nick:

I know all the weird stuff and in the news and in the media and academia and politics.

Nick:

I know, I know, I know.

Nick:

But none of that can stop the plan of God.

Nick:

And God is going to do great things.

Nick:

Is he going to do great things to exalt you, no, he's going to do great things to build his kingdom, and we want to be a part of that.

Nick:

We want to be a part of what the Lord is doing.

Nick:

You know, people say, well, you need to find something bigger than yourselves.

Nick:

If anybody's a Christian, you don't need to look very far, do you?

Nick:

Bigger than yourselves.

Nick:

How about living to the glory and the honor of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior?

Nick:

How about honoring the Father with the things that we think, say and do?

Nick:

How about glorifying and advancing the kingdom and standing against the enemy and his lies as we stand for truth, the biblical truth.

Nick:

Best way to defeat a lie is with the truth, not human truth, God's truth.

Nick:

It's a big difference.

Nick:

So I'm encouraging you to start embracing that in your heart and mind.

Nick:

I'm going to share something with you that I believe the Lord shared with me.

Nick:

I had a big reservation of whether I was going to share it with the audience.

Nick:

But the way that Nick called in and the way that all went, the Lord's already showing me that's the direction you're going, son.

Nick:

Head that way.

Nick:

And that's what we're going to do.

Nick:

And it's phenomenal.

Nick:

So I want you to get your heart ready, get your mind ready, and be aware that great things are coming.

Nick:

Let me explain this to you real simply.

Nick:

Do you want to know how you can stand in Great things are coming because Jesus is coming again and he's great.

Nick:

So now you know great things are coming, Right?

Nick:

That's just theologically as sound as you can get.

Nick:

And when we get done with this break and we get into the teaching, we're going to be in the Romans.

Nick:

You're going to see some things.

Nick:

I hope the Lord will allow me to teach you or at least communicate with you and that they will bless you.

Nick:

As you and I spend our lives drawing nearer to him until we hear the trumpet blow and there'll be no more separation from our king and our dad.

Nick:

Yeah, that's pretty good stuff, right?

Nick:

All right, take a short break, then come back.

Nick:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the truth station here in Texas.

Nick:

Don't go anywhere, but I want us to get this specific.

Nick:

Scripture, and it's really important is Romans, chapter 4, verse 18 through 21, says this against all hope.

Nick:

Abraham in hope, believed and so became the father of many nations.

Nick:

Just as it was said, so shall your offspring be without weakening in his faith.

Nick:

His faith he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead.

Nick:

Hey, it was not an impossibility.

Nick:

God gave him a promise when he was 75.

Nick:

It didn't get fulfilled until he was 125 years between promise and fulfillment.

Nick:

God made sure he was good and dead before the promise came about.

Nick:

So that when Isaac was born, everybody knew.

Nick:

It's amazing.

Nick:

It's a miracle.

Nick:

Exactly.

Nick:

And it wasn't that Abraham didn't know he was old.

Nick:

He faced the fact that his body was as good as dead since he was about 100 years old 99 before the conception took place, and that Sarah's womb was also dead.

Nick:

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what he had promised.

Nick:

It doesn't say that Abraham went through this and turned around and yelled at God and complained he gave glory to God.

Nick:

He knew God could do this, and he believed that the promise that God had given him was important.

Nick:

And he held onto that even though facing the fact the circumstance was completely wiped out.

Nick:

Guess what?

Nick:

God showed up.

Nick:

I'm telling you right now, you can tell me all you want about circumstances and situations and your feelings and your processes, but I am telling you when God shows up according to scripture and according to testimony to the law and to the testimony the scripture says, to the prophets and to the testimony, here's what you got to be aware of.

Nick:

When God shows up changes everything.

Nick:

And you're thinking, well, will that happen for Easton?

Nick:

Scott?

Nick:

I hope so.

Nick:

But guess what?

Nick:

If my daughter spends her whole life believing, and Easton's whole life believing that God can step in and this can change, and that may yet happen.

Nick:

She's not done a bad thing.

Nick:

She's raised a child with this gracious hope.

Nick:

If God decides not to do that, instead of complaining about it, it's about giving glory to God, believing that he knows what is in our best interest, even when we don't understand.

Nick:

And yes, I get it.

Nick:

There are tough things.

Nick:

I went through a myriad of tough things, and I'm surprised.

Nick:

First of all, I'm surprised that I'm still alive.

Nick:

Second of all, I'm surprised that the Lord brought me through any of them.

Nick:

I don't deserve it, I'm not worthy of it, but he did it anyway.

David Spoon was born and raised in a Jewish home in Detroit, Michigan. He attended a private Hebrew school called Hillel Hebrew Academy. David was bar mitzvah-ed at the age of thirteen. Not long after, he was involved in drug abuse and trafficking. After hearing the Gospel for the first time at age seventeen, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. A few months later, David had a dramatic experience with God. Immediately set free from years of excessive drug use, he committed himself to ministry and to furthering the Kingdom of God.

He also graduated with honors from Regent University with a master’s degree in Theological Studies and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Strategic Christian Ministry at Liberty University.

He is one of a few individuals holding ministerial ordinations from three separate denominations: Heritage Free Baptist Organization, 1981; Independent Pentecostal Ministers Association, 1985; and Vineyard Valley Association, 1988. He was also the Chaplain for the Flagstaff Police Department. In addition, David was the senior pastor of Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Flagstaff.

In addition, David started and co-hosted two different live Christian call-in radio talk shows. He hosted the very popular radio show “The David Spoon Experience” on KPRZ 1210 and a show called “To Know Him,” which aired on 88.9 on the F.M. dial-in Temecula, California at 1:00 p.m., Monday through Fridays. He was also the Director of Local Ministry for Salem Media Group in San Diego, California.

David is married to his best friend, Noelle. He has three children and seven grandchildren, plus their two dogs named Levi and Bert. On March 18th, 2019, he started “The David Spoon Experience” in Texas and is growing with his audience of awesome believers and non-believers alike.
