12-16-24 part 1: Are All Religions Equal? A Deep Dive into Biblical Truth with Dr. Spoon

Dr. David Spoon delves into the importance of sound teaching and biblical truth in today's episode, emphasizing that human philosophies and feelings should not dictate our understanding of doctrine. He highlights how the apostle Paul instructs Titus to proclaim teachings that align with the foundational truths of Scripture, underscoring the need for clarity and consistency in faith. The discussion also touches on the significance of kindness and politeness in everyday interactions, encouraging listeners to extend courtesies regardless of the circumstances. Additionally, Dr. Spoon reflects on current events, including a tragic school shooting, prompting a heartfelt prayer for those affected. With a blend of personal anecdotes and scriptural insights, this episode aims to inspire listeners to engage with their faith actively and meaningfully.

Transitioning from personal reflections to a more scriptural focus, Dr. Spoon delves into the teachings of the Apostle Paul, specifically in the book of Titus. He discusses the significance of sound doctrine and the need for spiritual leaders to communicate unwavering biblical truths. Spoon clarifies that theology, or the study of God, should be rooted in scripture, rather than human philosophies or feelings. He passionately argues against the misleading notion that all religions lead to God, reinforcing that truth is singular and divinely ordained. This segment invites listeners to think critically about their beliefs and the sources from which they draw their understanding of faith, emphasizing the need for discernment in a world filled with varying ideologies.

Takeaways:

  • The importance of maintaining sound teaching in Christianity cannot be overstated, as it anchors faith in biblical truth rather than human philosophies.
  • Prayer should be a constant practice in both good and bad times, emphasizing gratitude and seeking God’s guidance and support.
  • Christians must be careful not to conflate personal truths with God's truth, as only the latter leads to eternal life.
  • The rejection of kindness and polite behavior in society reflects a deeper spiritual issue that Christians are called to address.
  • Emphasizing the need for prayer requests and praise reports fosters community and encourages spiritual growth among believers.
  • The upcoming sporting event will affect the show's schedule, demonstrating the ministry's adaptability to current events.

David Spoon:

Hello everybody.

David Spoon:

When it's cold outside, I've got my monthly.

David Spoon:

Here's what's coming up on today's experience.

David Spoon:

It's Dr.

David Spoon:

Dave's devotional Diamonds of the Day, also known as DDDs, where my daily devotions become some of our spiritual reflections.

David Spoon:

Sound effects placed throughout the show which have nothing to do with life.

David Spoon:

But the Bible teaches there's a time to laugh In Ecclesiastes 3, 4, and ours are worth every penny we've paid for them.

David Spoon:

The review of the Goofy news which proves Jesus is coming back sooner than you think.

David Spoon:

Yay.

David Spoon:

Should be a response from all of us.

David Spoon:

Life lessons for our faith that we could actually use.

David Spoon:

Probably won't if we sit on our blessed Assurance humor that will force you to think, why does this guy have a radio show?

David Spoon:

Well, it just so happens I have an opening between 1:30pm and 3:00pm that's why.

David Spoon:

Also Bible trivia for fake and yet somehow real cool prizes, your phone calls and more.

David Spoon:

Living this life not always easy running in.

David Spoon:

Oh.

David Spoon:

Welcome to the David Spoon Experience, local national in Heavenly Talk.

David Spoon:

My name is Dr.

David Spoon:

David Spoon.

David Spoon:

I'll be your host for the next 5,400,000 milliseconds.

David Spoon:

Get ready for one of the more bizarre experiences on live radio.

David Spoon:

Here is the key to the show.

David Spoon:

We don't know what we're doing.

David Spoon:

We have no idea what's going to happen and we don't care.

David Spoon:

But for the next few minutes, I want to talk faith with you.

David Spoon:

So here we go.

David Spoon:

We're asking questions about living life as a Christian.

David Spoon:

That thing there.

David Spoon:

Here's how we open up on Mondays, because you don't go into Mondays going whatever.

David Spoon:

Nope.

David Spoon:

Many phenomenal things have been done in all of our lives on Mondays.

David Spoon:

And so we simply say, our audience, the best of the best of prayer warriors around the world.

David Spoon:

What can our prayer warriors pray for you about?

David Spoon:

What you going through with that?

David Spoon:

You need prayer.

David Spoon:

It doesn't have to be bad.

David Spoon:

By the way, it's one of the bad things that Christians do is sit there and say, well, I'm praying, because it's all a disaster.

David Spoon:

There are good times.

David Spoon:

You should be praying as well.

David Spoon:

That's why it says we should always be praying.

David Spoon:

And the idea behind this is to be thanking the Lord and appreciating where he's bringing us.

David Spoon:

So we're just asking that question regardless of where you're at, what can our people, our audience, our prayer warriors, pray for you about?

David Spoon:

If you have something that fits that description or if you have an opinion on something, a comment, a thought.

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

A thought or a question, please don't let it die of loneliness.

David Spoon:

Just reach out and give us a call.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

Talking to Jem and Jake.

David Spoon:

I've got a little bit of a Christmas line right there.

David Spoon:

It's like heading into the week.

David Spoon:

Wait, wait, wait, wait.

David Spoon:

With great faith and expectation.

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

Thank you, David.

David Spoon:

Happy Monday.

David Spoon:

I am here.

David Spoon:

Yes, he is here, ladies and gentlemen.

David Spoon:

See, it was going to be Tom Terrific.

David Spoon:

Tom did a phenomenal job helping out on Friday.

David Spoon:

Big props to Tom, by the way.

David Spoon:

Okay, got it, got it, got it.

David Spoon:

But we did pray.

David Spoon:

Hey, Lord, if he can get that break, let him get that break and jam.

David Spoon:

And Jacob got the break, and here he is with us, and we texted over the weekend, and it's just nice because he wanted that little break and he got it, and by the grace of God.

David Spoon:

But now we know that Tom Terrific can help out any specific time.

David Spoon:

That takes a little bit of pressure off Jem and Jacob.

David Spoon:

Kind of a nice situation.

David Spoon:

It's good to have you.

David Spoon:

Other than later on, we're talking about Jake's take, which is not going to be my favorite subject for the day, obviously, but we'll get to that later on.

David Spoon:

But good to have you here in the studio.

David Spoon:

Good to have you.

David Spoon:

Yes.

David Spoon:

Happy to be here, David.

David Spoon:

Happy to be here.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Now, look, it.

David Spoon:

It's not complex, you're thinking.

David Spoon:

What's not complex?

David Spoon:

Well, if you've got something that you need prayer for, we want you to reach out to us and we'll pray for you, good, bad, or indifferent, even just the unknown.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

After all, if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without finding fault.

David Spoon:

That's a big part of it.

David Spoon:

And so what we want to be able to do is petition the Lord.

David Spoon:

Now, in addition to that, you can, you know, you can call us.

David Spoon:

It's okay.

David Spoon:

If you call us from outside of your house and it's on a phone, it will get through.

David Spoon:

If you just yell through a megaphone, you probably not going to get there, but you can also text and that's kind of fun.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

That is in fact the ministry phone number.

David Spoon:

But during the show, it's only for text.

David Spoon:

After the show, you're welcome to still call that number.

David Spoon:

I try to get to every call I can.

David Spoon:

There's a lot of them, but I try to get to them.

David Spoon:

Here it is.

David Spoon:

You can text us during the show.

David Spoon:

And additionally, by the way, in case you didn't know this, you can send an email during the show.

David Spoon:

Some people love that.

David Spoon:

It just is easy for them.

David Spoon:

It's easier to do.

David Spoon:

Got it, got it.

David Spoon:

Got it.

David Spoon:

You send the email to David Crease.org.

David Spoon:

it's all one thing.

David Spoon:

You put in David, that's my name.

David Spoon:

The A with a circle.

David Spoon:

He must increase from John 3:30.

David Spoon:

He must increase.

David Spoon:

I must decrease.org because we're a nonprofit corporation.

David Spoon:

So David must increase.org so you can call us, you can text us, you can email us.

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

We've told you many, many times, we've already said one of these things.

David Spoon:

You can do it for prayer requests, you can do it for praise reports.

David Spoon:

Now, I haven't talked to anybody that closely since about Friday, I'm just assuming.

David Spoon:

And we do have a praise report.

David Spoon:

You know, Jam and Jacob wanted to get a break.

David Spoon:

He got the break.

David Spoon:

Praise the Lord.

David Spoon:

We praise the Lord for every good thing in our lives.

David Spoon:

And so maybe there's something that's happened and you just want to give acknowledgement.

David Spoon:

Maybe you're thinking, but it doesn't seem like it's really important.

David Spoon:

Is it important to you, then?

David Spoon:

It's important to God.

David Spoon:

And if it's important to God, the Lord will use that to bless other people.

David Spoon:

So perhaps you've got something that you want to share that the Lord's done for you.

David Spoon:

Maybe you just got a scripture, maybe you went to church and, you know, like the pastor was preaching, he jumped on this one passage and it really ministered to me.

David Spoon:

That's cool.

David Spoon:

People like to hear that.

David Spoon:

And it might be a blessing just waiting for somebody else.

David Spoon:

So if you've got a prayer request, a praise report, if you've got something you want to share, something that's on your heart and mind.

David Spoon:

We're not against politics.

David Spoon:

We've made that very clear.

David Spoon:

We're just for the kingdom of God.

David Spoon:

And so in our mindset, our biggest goal is to encourage one another as we see the day of Jesus Christ getting closer and Closer.

David Spoon:

And my friends, it's so much closer now.

David Spoon:

It's so close.

David Spoon:

Jesus is coming.

David Spoon:

Jesus is coming again.

David Spoon:

Are you ready?

David Spoon:

There's that old joke.

David Spoon:

And yes, it's an old joke.

David Spoon:

Oh, Jesus is coming.

David Spoon:

Everybody look busy.

David Spoon:

Here's what I'm trying to tell you.

David Spoon:

He's coming.

David Spoon:

And if he comes for you, before he comes corporately, he's still coming.

David Spoon:

Jesus is coming again.

David Spoon:

And man, oh, man, oh, man, there's going to be a trumpet blown, there's going to be a transformation, there's going to be a celebration, and there's going to be a whole new existence.

David Spoon:

Hallelujah.

David Spoon:

Come, Lord Jesus, come.

David Spoon:

That's what John said at the end of Revelation.

David Spoon:

Come, come.

David Spoon:

We want you.

David Spoon:

That's right.

David Spoon:

So you've got all that stuff going on.

David Spoon:

We also do a lot of weird stuff.

David Spoon:

We do Bible trivia for those that don't know.

David Spoon:

People are like, why do you always give out the numbers?

David Spoon:

Why do you always give out the text?

David Spoon:

Why do you always give out the emails?

David Spoon:

New people, they gotta have opportunity to connect as well.

David Spoon:

New and old, we love it.

David Spoon:

What's the background for all this, Dave?

David Spoon:

The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

David Spoon:

If you can get past that, let me know.

David Spoon:

We'll just leave it there.

David Spoon:

Okay, so that's what we got going on right now.

David Spoon:

We want to keep it open to you.

David Spoon:

If you've got prayer, if you've got praise report, got something you want to share, we're good for that.

David Spoon:

In the meantime, for those who may be unaware, there's a couple things we do need to bring up.

David Spoon:

One of them is we do have a modified schedule this week.

David Spoon:

On Friday, there is a massively cool sporting event taking place during our show, and we support all of that.

David Spoon:

So Friday will not be a replay, but it'll be a live sporting event.

David Spoon:

So just be aware of that.

David Spoon:

Okay?

David Spoon:

It's already on the website for those that need to double check.

David Spoon:

Additionally, I do want to open up.

David Spoon:

I do know what's going on a little bit with the Christian school.

David Spoon:

There was a shooting with certain people in Wisconsin.

David Spoon:

Some of the people have been killed and some of the people are seriously wounded.

David Spoon:

So I'd like to open up with a word of prayer for that school and bring that forward to the Lord and ask for his mercy and grace.

David Spoon:

And then we'll get into the teaching in Titus.

David Spoon:

But let's pray first.

David Spoon:

Father, we come before you right now.

David Spoon:

And Lord, in our nation, just Lord, iniquity does run wild.

David Spoon:

It goes all over the place.

David Spoon:

And any time, Lord, that there's a school shooting, it's just a disaster.

David Spoon:

It's just a testimony against humanity.

David Spoon:

And, Lord, here in a faith school, there's been a disaster taking place.

David Spoon:

We cannot fully imagine unless we've actually experienced it, the level of pain and suffering and fear and dread that's going on.

David Spoon:

So we're asking you to comfort your people, put your arms around them.

David Spoon:

Let there be not just resolution, but let there be healing, and let there be grace, and let there be mercy, Lord.

David Spoon:

Let nobody fall in such deep despair that they cannot find help from you.

David Spoon:

Because that, Lord, that's just the enemy trying to steal all hope, break the power of that in these people's lives, and allow your grace, your mercy, and your healing to be present in that situation.

David Spoon:

Invade this portion of earth with your kingdom and have mercy on us as a people.

David Spoon:

We pray this in Jesus name.

David Spoon:

Amen and Amen.

David Spoon:

Okay, well, if we get more information, we will, of course, pass it along, but in the meantime, we are going to jump into Titus.

David Spoon:

We are in Titus, chapter two, starting with verse one.

David Spoon:

For those that do not remember, we have done first Timothy, we have done two Timothy, and now we're doing Titus.

David Spoon:

These are known as the Paulinian Pastoral Epistles.

David Spoon:

They're the letters written to two of them to Timothy one to Titus from Paul.

David Spoon:

These were his young proteges, and he's trying to give them wisdom, teaching them how to teach things in the church, how to lay down some structure, some government, some leadership, certainly all geared towards servant leadership.

David Spoon:

But he starts by saying this in chapter two, verse one.

David Spoon:

But you talking to Titus and referring to everybody you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching.

David Spoon:

All right, I want to make sure you understand what Paul's talking about.

David Spoon:

He's trying to communicate this really important.

David Spoon:

He's telling his young protege Titus to proclaim things that are consistent with sound teaching.

David Spoon:

This has to do with theology and doctrine.

David Spoon:

And people hear that and they go, ooh, theology, Theo, God, ology studies.

David Spoon:

The study of God is what theology is.

David Spoon:

And so he wants to ensure that they're sticking with sound teaching and that Titus is proclaiming things that are connected to biblical truth.

David Spoon:

Here it is, in an incredible simplified process.

David Spoon:

God communicated with mankind through his written word.

David Spoon:

God created the universe.

David Spoon:

The dude can write a book.

David Spoon:

and Revelation:

David Spoon:

That would be pretty straightforward.

David Spoon:

39 in the old, 27 in the new, about 785,000 words in the King James, about 760,000 words in the NIV to communicate with mankind this dear human race.

David Spoon:

to Revelation:

David Spoon:

And what Titus needs to make sure to do, and what we need to make sure to do is understand that our study of God, our theology, our doctrine, which has to do with teachings that these things are centered in biblical truth.

David Spoon:

It's not that feelings have no place in Christianity.

David Spoon:

Nobody says that, nobody thinks that.

David Spoon:

That's ridiculous.

David Spoon:

But you don't do a doctrine based on feelings.

David Spoon:

Doctrines are based on truth, biblical truth, and they're attested to much more than two or three times.

David Spoon:

Although the scripture says, in the mouth of two or three witnesses, let every word be established.

David Spoon:

So it's important to understand that God's truth stands in opposition to several things.

David Spoon:

And this is what Paul's talking to him about.

David Spoon:

Specifically.

David Spoon:

Specifically because he's coming off of what he was just talking about in the prior verses.

David Spoon:

It's important to understand that men's philosophies, women's philosophies, human philosophies, are not approved as truth.

David Spoon:

Get that?

David Spoon:

The theories of mankind are not approved.

David Spoon:

Truth.

David Spoon:

Well, you got the theory of evolution.

David Spoon:

Again, the theories of mankind are not approved as truth.

David Spoon:

I just want somebody who understands physics to explain how there was nothing and then something, and they just seem to skip by that part because they don't want to deal with it.

David Spoon:

There's empty and then not empty.

David Spoon:

Yeah.

David Spoon:

How did it happen?

David Spoon:

Here it is in a nutshell.

David Spoon:

He's saying, look, these philosophies, this is not a good.

David Spoon:

This is not a good thing.

David Spoon:

So there are some leaders in large churches, okay?

David Spoon:

And I mean large church and in small churches say that all religions lead to God.

David Spoon:

That kind of statement is absolutely false.

David Spoon:

Anybody who says all religions lead to God is a false teacher and a false prophet, period.

David Spoon:

You can't say that.

David Spoon:

I didn't.

David Spoon:

Paul did.

David Spoon:

God did.

David Spoon:

Through Paul, in the verbal plenary process of communication, anything that says, oh, all these things are just fine and dandy, it doesn't matter as long as it's good in your heart.

David Spoon:

After all, it's my truth.

David Spoon:

Hey, you know what?

David Spoon:

Your truth doesn't mean anything.

David Spoon:

Your truth won't get you to heaven.

David Spoon:

Your truth won't get you to life past your time date when you are done on this planet.

David Spoon:

Only God's truth gets us there.

David Spoon:

And Paul has no reservation, no hesitation, which you have to love about him.

David Spoon:

It's like, look, man's philosophy is baloney.

David Spoon:

But Dave, you don't understand the power of science.

David Spoon:

The power of science is cool in some places and it's growing and developing, but it's not biblical truth.

David Spoon:

I said this last week and I'll say it again.

David Spoon:

You want to follow the science, Follow it right to go to hell.

David Spoon:

Because if that science leads you away from God, guess where you're going.

David Spoon:

But Dave, the science is never wrong.

David Spoon:

That's why it changes every other hour.

David Spoon:

Because it's never wrong.

David Spoon:

But biblical truth, consistent, never changes.

David Spoon:

Culture change.

David Spoon:

Political leaders change.

David Spoon:

Governments change.

David Spoon:

Our government changes.

David Spoon:

One of the coolest countries ever.

David Spoon:

Our government changes.

David Spoon:

Guess what?

David Spoon:

Biblical truth does not change.

David Spoon:

The same author that was In Isaiah, chapter 40, verse 28 is the same author that is writing John 3:16.

David Spoon:

Same guy, same dude.

David Spoon:

And that is biblical consistency.

David Spoon:

That is what Titus needs to be focusing on.

David Spoon:

Wow, what an open for a Monday.

David Spoon:

Yazza.

David Spoon:

Okay, let's get ready for your very first trivia question.

David Spoon:

Let's see if you can get this correct.

David Spoon:

Is this true or false?

David Spoon:

True or false?

David Spoon:

The Gospel of John tells us for the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

True or false?

David Spoon:

Your biblical reference, John 1:17.

David Spoon:

So you can verify true or false.

David Spoon:

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

Just another indication.

David Spoon:

By the way, we'll get to that in a second.

David Spoon:

So is it true or is it false gives you that opportunity.

David Spoon:

If you think you know John Gospel of John 1:17 is your reference point.

David Spoon:

If you want to as you know, you are welcome to reach out to us.

David Spoon:

Our number here that hasn't changed for a while.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Here's your question.

David Spoon:

True or false?

David Spoon:

The Gospel of John tells us for the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

John chapter 1, verse 17.

David Spoon:

If you think you know in the meantime gonna send you up to the webassite.

David Spoon:

It's the webassite I guess I'd added a to the website web a site.

David Spoon:

Get it on the website.

David Spoon:

l as by the way all access to:

David Spoon:

We're just kind of a doing our best kind of ministry.

David Spoon:

We have a little tougher time when we get to December 15th to January 1st.

David Spoon:

So if you've never given, we would ask you to prayerfully consider it.

David Spoon:

And if you're not able to give, we would ask you to pray for us.

David Spoon:

That's a cool thing.

David Spoon:

Additionally, on the website is a place for you to put in praise reports or prayer requests.

David Spoon:

No donations are required for that, as you should know.

David Spoon:

And if there's anything else we can do to help, we will do our best to do so.

David Spoon:

Our scripture for today in regards to giving.

David Spoon:

2 Corinthians 9, 6, 7.

David Spoon:

The point is, whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly.

David Spoon:

Whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

David Spoon:

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion.

David Spoon:

For God loves a cheerful giver.

David Spoon:

Give if your heart is there for it.

David Spoon:

And if you can't give to us, we get it.

David Spoon:

Give somewhere.

David Spoon:

Because God loves a cheerful giver.

David Spoon:

And it's not just people that give to this ministry.

David Spoon:

It's people that just give.

David Spoon:

He likes that.

David Spoon:

And you think, why?

David Spoon:

For God so loved the world that he gave.

David Spoon:

That's why.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Check it out on the website.

David Spoon:

He must increase.org prayer request.

David Spoon:

He must increase.org praise report.

David Spoon:

He must increase looking to give to this ministry.

David Spoon:

He must increase.org confused by what's happening right now.

David Spoon:

He must increase.org hemustincrease.org There you go.

David Spoon:

That's Jacob's absolute favorite sound.

David Spoon:

And it's so cheerful, isn't it?

David Spoon:

It's like, wow, Yay.

David Spoon:

Happy times, happy times.

David Spoon:

You know, it's like somebody said, here, here's a ticket to a free buffet.

David Spoon:

Okay, I'm going, that's awesome sauce.

David Spoon:

I love stuff like that.

David Spoon:

So excellent on that.

David Spoon:

Your trivia question is straightforward, not overly complex.

David Spoon:

It's a true or false, so we roll with that.

David Spoon:

True or false is the question.

David Spoon:

The Gospel of John tells us, for the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ, according to John, chapter one, verse 17.

David Spoon:

True or false.

David Spoon:

There you go.

David Spoon:

All right, so we're going to keep moving on into our teachings.

David Spoon:

I hope everybody is doing okay.

David Spoon:

Getting ready again.

David Spoon:

We've told you multiple times, if you're a person that's like, you know what?

David Spoon:

I don't really like Christmas.

David Spoon:

It's too much celebratory.

David Spoon:

It's too, you know, Not a problem if you're a person.

David Spoon:

I love Christmas.

David Spoon:

We watch Christmas movies all the time.

David Spoon:

We decorate everything.

David Spoon:

Not a problem.

David Spoon:

Those are not issues of fellowship and never let them be.

David Spoon:

That would just be the enemy.

David Spoon:

Using something silly as that to divide Christians who are called to proclaim an eternal kingdom in the name of Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

And each and every one of us an ambassador.

David Spoon:

We're not going to lose our ambassadorship because of pride on our position.

David Spoon:

Right?

David Spoon:

That's not a good idea.

David Spoon:

Okay, so let me go back to the teaching we're doing.

David Spoon:

All right, Jim and Jacob, you're doing fine.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

All good.

David Spoon:

Okay, good.

David Spoon:

Back to this teaching.

David Spoon:

I want to point out this one thing.

David Spoon:

Now, Paul is talking, and we're not going to get too far into the deep of this, but I want you to catch what he's saying.

David Spoon:

He says you're to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching.

David Spoon:

We already talked about that.

David Spoon:

And then in this next Titus review, he's going to go into some social positions.

David Spoon:

Social positions, Yep.

David Spoon:

But he's going to do it differently.

David Spoon:

He's going to start off, he's going to talk about older men, older women, younger women and younger men.

David Spoon:

And he's going to talk about them from the point of view of how to treat them, how to act towards one another.

David Spoon:

In our society, we've kind of lost this ability.

David Spoon:

It's called being polite or being kind.

David Spoon:

I have a great message for many Christians who should do this, regardless of whether it gets reciprocated or not from humanity, because God sees it and it's the right thing to do.

David Spoon:

When somebody does something nice for you in a store, on the road, while you're driving, anywhere else, give them a nod, a thank you, a wave, a way of showing appreciation.

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

Because that's called goodness.

David Spoon:

And a lot of our society has forgot what goodness is.

David Spoon:

So the other day, I'll just give you an example.

David Spoon:

And I mentioned this before, I'm in the gym, right?

David Spoon:

And when I'm in the gym, one particular machine that I bike on is right by the door.

David Spoon:

And I brought this up before, but it just is a perfect example of what's going on in our society.

David Spoon:

So this lady who's got like two bags with her, she's coming in, she gets the door, and then somebody behind her, a guy behind her who's looking at his phone and not looking anywhere else, she opens the door for him, he walks past her through, walks right through, doesn't nod, doesn't say a word.

David Spoon:

Just keeps walking.

David Spoon:

And then she has a little bit of a struggle.

David Spoon:

She closes the door.

David Spoon:

And as she walks by me, I go, well, that was really, really polite of him, wasn't it?

David Spoon:

And she goes, I know.

David Spoon:

She goes, can you believe he didn't even lift up his head?

David Spoon:

You see that?

David Spoon:

That's a person that is so absorbed in what they're doing in their life, they can't see past themselves.

David Spoon:

That's exactly what the Lord doesn't want us to be like.

David Spoon:

Don't be so self absorbed.

David Spoon:

When we get into these teachings from Paul, he's going to give some definitions.

David Spoon:

They're not hard to figure out.

David Spoon:

But listen, there is this thing that Christians should be doing, and that's just called being polite.

David Spoon:

And you think, well, what if the person's not a nice person?

David Spoon:

Be polite until the Lord calls you to do it a different way.

David Spoon:

Extend courtesies and be polite and kind.

David Spoon:

Since kindness is important in the kingdom of God, after all, God pours his kindness upon us.

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

True or false?

David Spoon:

The Gospel of John tells us, for the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

And the answer is true.

David Spoon:

John 1:17.

David Spoon:

We'll take a short break, then come back.

David Spoon:

Don't go anywhere.

David Spoon:

The David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

So there's teaching in the church.

David Spoon:

Most of you, if you're familiar with the shepherding movement, just so you can know Bob Mumford and Derek Prince, people who were influential in the church, came up with this idea, the shepherding movement, that the shepherd is responsible for the people.

David Spoon:

And because the shepherd is responsible for the people, the shepherd should have authority to help them make decisions in life.

David Spoon:

Initially, the idea is good in the sense of making good decisions, moral decisions, so on and so forth.

David Spoon:

But it quickly grew into abuse, where people were making decisions about relationships, jobs, locations of living, how much they were giving, the whole nine yards, okay?

David Spoon:

Pastor Ken was a huge fan of the shepherding movement.

David Spoon:

He just didn't know it was called the shepherding movement.

David Spoon:

He just liked the control.

David Spoon:

So he would say to us, you touch not my anointed, do my prophets no harm.

David Spoon:

You can't speak against me.

David Spoon:

It's okay that you took down the rabbi, but you can't do that to me.

David Spoon:

Let me give you.

David Spoon:

I'm going to read you a scripture.

David Spoon:

I'm going to show you where the error is so that everybody can understand how deep the fallacy goes.

David Spoon:

This comes out of Psalm 105, and this is verse eight.

David Spoon:

And I'm going to show you something that a lot of people won't show you because they don't understand the word context.

David Spoon:

Verse 8 in Psalm 105, he has remembered his covenant forever.

David Spoon:

The word which he commanded to a thousand generations.

David Spoon:

The covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac, then confirmed it to Jacob, to Israel, to who?

David Spoon:

To Israel as an everlasting covenant, saying to you, I will give the land of Canaan and the portion of your inheritance.

David Spoon:

When they were only a few in people, very few and strangers in it.

David Spoon:

And they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.

David Spoon:

He allowed no one to oppress them, and he rebuked kings for their sakes, saying, do not touch my anointed one, and do my prophets no harm.

David Spoon:

In context, touch not my anointed ones and do my prophet no harm.

David Spoon:

Is all the people of Israel.

David Spoon:

And God was telling all these different Gentile nations, don't touch my people.

David Spoon:

Don't touch my people.

David Spoon:

You touch my people, you're going to be in trouble.

David Spoon:

Bad, bad, bad.

David Spoon:

Don't do that.

David Spoon:

I'll blow you up.

David Spoon:

This is like that kind of thing.

David Spoon:

And what the pastors have done is they've taken that verse out of context, even though it refers to the people of God.

David Spoon:

And you think, wait, wait, wait.

David Spoon:

Are you telling me it's not the leaders?

David Spoon:

Touch not my anointed one.

David Spoon:

Christ means anointed one.

David Spoon:

Christians is anointed ones.

David Spoon:

Specifically, that passage is about people who don't believe in God touching God's people.

David Spoon:

That's exactly what has got nothing to do with a pastor by himself.

David Spoon was born and raised in a Jewish home in Detroit, Michigan. He attended a private Hebrew school called Hillel Hebrew Academy. David was bar mitzvah-ed at the age of thirteen. Not long after, he was involved in drug abuse and trafficking. After hearing the Gospel for the first time at age seventeen, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. A few months later, David had a dramatic experience with God. Immediately set free from years of excessive drug use, he committed himself to ministry and to furthering the Kingdom of God.

He attended Arizona Bible College, Northern Arizona University, and Life Pacific College, graduating summa-cum-laude in their Ministry and Leadership program. He also graduated with honors from Regent University with a master’s degree in Theological Studies and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Strategic Christian Ministry at Liberty University.

He is one of a few individuals holding ministerial ordinations from three separate denominations: Heritage Free Baptist Organization, 1981; Independent Pentecostal Ministers Association, 1985; and Vineyard Valley Association, 1988. He was also the Chaplain for the Flagstaff Police Department. In addition, David was the senior pastor of Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Flagstaff.

In addition, David started and co-hosted two different live Christian call-in radio talk shows. He was also the Director of Local Ministry for Salem Media Group in San Diego, California.

David is married to his best friend, Noelle. He has three children and seven grandchildren, plus their two dogs named Levi and Bert. On March 18th, 2019, he started “The David Spoon Experience” in Texas and is growing with his audience of awesome believers and non-believers alike.
