12-13-24 part 1: Watch Yourselves: A Call to Spiritual Vigilance

Join Dr. David Spoon as he dives into the profound teachings of Second John, emphasizing the importance of remaining steadfast in the teachings of Christ to ensure we do not lose the rewards of our faith. Throughout the show, he highlights the dangers of being led astray by worldly influences, encouraging listeners to watch themselves against the enemy and stay grounded in their beliefs. With a mix of humor and heartfelt insights, Dr. Spoon reminds us that God desires to bless His children, not with what we think we want, but with what is truly good for us. He also addresses the significance of sharing personal testimonies and prayer requests, fostering a community of support and encouragement. Tune in for thought-provoking discussions, insightful Bible trivia, and a call to deepen your relationship with God.

The conversation led by Dr. David Spoon dives deep into the intersection of humor, spirituality, and real-life experiences that shape our faith journeys. From the outset, Dr. Spoon employs a light-hearted approach, mixing humor with insightful reflections that resonate with the audience. He introduces his signature segment 'Devotional Diamonds of the Day,' which encourages listeners to think critically about their daily spiritual practices. This segment serves as a springboard into a broader discussion about the role of community in faith and the power of sharing personal testimonies.

A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to exploring the teachings found in 2 John, where Dr. Spoon warns against the dangers of drifting away from the core teachings of Christ. He articulates the importance of being vigilant and self-aware, urging listeners to reflect on how easily one can become distracted by the noise of the world. Through engaging anecdotes and relatable humor, he emphasizes that true fulfillment comes from remaining rooted in God’s word and being mindful of the influences that surround us.

Dr. Spoon also addresses the importance of prayer, inviting listeners to participate actively by sharing their own prayer requests and experiences. He reminds the audience that they are not alone in their struggles and that there is strength in community and collective prayer. The episode concludes on an uplifting note, encouraging listeners to pursue a deeper relationship with God, reinforcing the idea that faith is not just a set of beliefs but a dynamic and relational journey that enriches our lives in profound ways.

Dr. David Spoon:

Dr. David Spoon:

Here is the key to the show.

Dr. David Spoon:

We don't know what we're doing.

Dr. David Spoon:

Good night.

Dr. David Spoon:

Oh, no.

Dr. David Spoon:

We don't know what we're doing.

Dr. David Spoon:

We have no idea what's gonna happen and we don't care.

Dr. David Spoon:

But for the next few minutes, I wanna talk Jesus with you.

Dr. David Spoon:

So here we go.

Dr. David Spoon:

We're asking questions about living life as a Christian.

Dr. David Spoon:

Here's a very interesting question.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let's see if you can answer this.

Dr. David Spoon:

What is the best color of a cover of a Bible?

Dr. David Spoon:

Best Bible cover color that you like the most?

Dr. David Spoon:

Yes, it's an interesting question.

Dr. David Spoon:

No, it's not necessarily spiritual, but it is kind of cool.

Dr. David Spoon:

Simple.

Dr. David Spoon:

What's the best color for a print Bible?

Dr. David Spoon:

For the COVID of it?

Dr. David Spoon:

Keeping it easy.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let me know what you think.

Dr. David Spoon:

If you have an opinion, a comment, a thought or a question, please don't let it die of loneliness.

Dr. David Spoon:

We consider that to be sad.

Dr. David Spoon:

Just give us a call.

Dr. David Spoon:

One ringy dingy.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's all it's going to take.

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

Talking to Jam and Jacob.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's like a peaceful day and evening with no drama.

Dr. David Spoon:

Hello.

Dr. David Spoon:

We like the no drama thing because every once in a while just things happen all around you.

Dr. David Spoon:

Whether it's family, friends, doesn't matter, children.

Dr. David Spoon:

And it's just so much drama.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's just ready to put on prime television.

Dr. David Spoon:

Every once in a while you need a break from the drama.

Dr. David Spoon:

I'm just telling you that right now.

Dr. David Spoon:

So when you talk to him, it's that kind of thing.

Dr. David Spoon:

And we want you to have that blessing of talking with Jam and Jacob.

Dr. David Spoon:

Now, while Jam and Jacob is doing the show today, I want to point out he is actually helping somebody who's going to pinch hit for us.

Dr. David Spoon:

His name is Tom Terrific.

Dr. David Spoon:

And Tom Terrific is going to be helping out on Monday while Jam and Jacob has to most likely do jury duty.

Dr. David Spoon:

And so what's happening right now is our Jam and Jacob is helping Tom Terrific just do a couple of acclimation kind of things to make it all work.

Dr. David Spoon:

So it should be pretty good, should be pretty simple.

Dr. David Spoon:

And if we do something wrong, we'll let you know.

Dr. David Spoon:

We do things wrong all the time.

Dr. David Spoon:

I don't know why that would surprise anybody.

Dr. David Spoon:

So bottom line to this process is, look, we want you to be able to reach out to us.

Dr. David Spoon:

This is about a show that is not geared towards politics.

Dr. David Spoon:

Why poly many ticks, blood sucking insects?

Dr. David Spoon:

It's simple.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's geared towards encouraging one another to get closer to the Lord.

Dr. David Spoon:

And you're thinking, oh, come on.

Dr. David Spoon:

Nope.

Dr. David Spoon:

If you've never done that, this is an opportunity for you to have a complete change in your life.

Dr. David Spoon:

But Dave, is that real?

Dr. David Spoon:

I don't know.

Dr. David Spoon:

Why don't you pursue and find out?

Dr. David Spoon:

That's the challenge.

Dr. David Spoon:

Keeping it simple.

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

But you can also text live during the show now when it's being replayed at 1am I'm not answering.

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay.

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

Or you can send an email.

Dr. David Spoon:

David at.

Dr. David Spoon:

He must increase.

Dr. David Spoon:

David D.

Dr. David Spoon:

A V I D.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's my name.

Dr. David Spoon:

A with a circle around it for the at sign.

Dr. David Spoon:

He must increase.

Dr. David Spoon:

From John 3:30.

Dr. David Spoon:

He must increase.

Dr. David Spoon:

I must decrease.org because we're a nonprofit corporation.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's just that simple.

Dr. David Spoon:

So you can call us, you can text us, you can email us.

Dr. David Spoon:

Why would you do that?

Dr. David Spoon:

Well, maybe you want to answer that first question.

Dr. David Spoon:

I mean, it's not that complex.

Dr. David Spoon:

What's the best color for a print Bible?

Dr. David Spoon:

That's it.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's all we're asking.

Dr. David Spoon:

Could be something else.

Dr. David Spoon:

So maybe you've got a praise report that you want to share.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's something that happened that really blessed you.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's really encouraging.

Dr. David Spoon:

They're called testimonies, praise reports, whatever you want to call them.

Dr. David Spoon:

Great.

Dr. David Spoon:

If you share it, it'll strengthen it in your own life.

Dr. David Spoon:

It'll bless other people who hear it, and it'll honor God.

Dr. David Spoon:

And in Isaiah 43:7, one of the main reasons that we were created was to bring glory to God.

Dr. David Spoon:

So, okay, that's simple.

Dr. David Spoon:

Maybe you've got a prayer request.

Dr. David Spoon:

You're working on something.

Dr. David Spoon:

You're just trying to get through it, or you're doing really well with something, you just want it to keep going.

Dr. David Spoon:

Then let's pray.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let's ask the Lord to help.

Dr. David Spoon:

I mean, one of the best bumper stickers in the world is simply this.

Dr. David Spoon:

Help Jesus, Help me.

Dr. David Spoon:

This is so good.

Dr. David Spoon:

Just like, you don't have to make this complex.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let's pray about it.

Dr. David Spoon:

We'll take our faith combatant with your faith, and we'll have mutual faith and bring it before the Lord.

Dr. David Spoon:

Because without faith, it's impossible to please God.

Dr. David Spoon:

For those who come to God must believe that he is and a rewarder of those who seek him.

Dr. David Spoon:

So maybe you've got that going on.

Dr. David Spoon:

Maybe you've got a scripture, something that's happened, something that's taken place, and you're just like, Wowzer Bowser.

Dr. David Spoon:

I just want to share it.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's been a blessing.

Dr. David Spoon:

You have that opportunity, as simple as can be.

Dr. David Spoon:

Give praise.

Dr. David Spoon:

Jeanette just let me know she had a great night's sleep.

Dr. David Spoon:

She really has a hard time sleeping.

Dr. David Spoon:

She just sent me a thing.

Dr. David Spoon:

Praise God.

Dr. David Spoon:

I had a great night's sleep.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right, thanks for sharing that.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's just that simple.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's not even complex.

Dr. David Spoon:

We just want people to know that.

Dr. David Spoon:

So whether it's a prayer request A praise report, whether it's something you want to share, something that's going on.

Dr. David Spoon:

Awesome.

Dr. David Spoon:

You have that freedom to do that throughout the show.

Dr. David Spoon:

In the meantime, as most of you know, it's kind of hard to shut me up, so I don't know why you would be surprised about that.

Dr. David Spoon:

I think I came out of the womb talking, and I'm sure when it's all said and done, as I'm heading back to the dust, I'll probably be talking.

Dr. David Spoon:

Unless the Lord comes first, then I'll be singing and praising.

Dr. David Spoon:

In the meantime, I do want people to be aware of a couple things.

Dr. David Spoon:

Like I said, Tom Terrific's in training.

Dr. David Spoon:

He'll be with us on Monday, a week from today.

Dr. David Spoon:

We do not have our regular show.

Dr. David Spoon:

We are being preempted by phenomenal sports, and we want you to participate and listen to it because it's fun and it's cool.

Dr. David Spoon:

So we encourage you to stick to that as well.

Dr. David Spoon:

All of that to get us to Second John.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let me just check in with Jam and Jacob, make sure he's still breathing.

Dr. David Spoon:

Jam and Jacob, are you still breathing?

Dr. David Spoon:

Are you guys doing okay over there?

Dr. David Spoon:

Is it freaking him out yet?

Jammin Jacob:

We're doing okay.

Jammin Jacob:

We're doing okay.

Jammin Jacob:

Everything's going good so far.

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right.

Dr. David Spoon:

Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay, that's good.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right, let's get into it.

Dr. David Spoon:

We're into our teaching.

Dr. David Spoon:

For those that do not know, we are in Second John or John two, I don't really care what you call it.

Dr. David Spoon:

Here it is.

Dr. David Spoon:

So John wrote the Gospel of John.

Dr. David Spoon:

Got that?

Dr. David Spoon:

First John, Second John, Third John, and then the book of Revelation.

Dr. David Spoon:

So he wrote quite a bit.

Dr. David Spoon:

Now, keep in mind the story, the thing that's behind this.

Dr. David Spoon:

So at this point, it's about 93, 94 A.D.

Dr. David Spoon:

he's been the apostle for, oh, about 60 years, and he's the elder statesman in the church.

Dr. David Spoon:

And he's writing this letter to a church, letting them know how he feels about certain things and connecting with them.

Dr. David Spoon:

And we're going to pick it up at verse 8.

Dr. David Spoon:

And verse 8 says this in 2 John, simply watch yourselves so that you do not lose what we've worked for, but that you may be fully rewarded.

Dr. David Spoon:

Verse 9.

Dr. David Spoon:

Anyone who runs ahead without remaining in the teaching of Christ does not have God.

Dr. David Spoon:

Whoever remains in his teaching has both the Father and the Son.

Dr. David Spoon:

So the first thing that the elder John says to all of us, communicating one of the last letters written in the New Testament, is, watch yourselves Watch out.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's giving a warning right there.

Dr. David Spoon:

For a couple of different things.

Dr. David Spoon:

One, there's warfare against the enemy.

Dr. David Spoon:

I know some people don't think that devil's real.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's a guy in a red suit.

Dr. David Spoon:

Well, first of all, the Bible says he comes as an angel of light, so he's not going to show up in a red suit.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let's just stop that.

Dr. David Spoon:

Number two, he's so real.

Dr. David Spoon:

Jesus talked about him more than he talked about love.

Dr. David Spoon:

Want to count the word difference?

Dr. David Spoon:

You will not win on that one.

Dr. David Spoon:

Number three, John wants us to be aware that the world is very influential.

Dr. David Spoon:

It seems like everybody knows what's going on as soon as they're on the Wait radio like this, or television or the Internet.

Dr. David Spoon:

Here's a great saying to remember for the rest of your life.

Dr. David Spoon:

Well, I heard it on the radio.

Dr. David Spoon:

Oh, I saw it on the Internet.

Dr. David Spoon:

I watched it on television.

Dr. David Spoon:

It must be true.

Dr. David Spoon:

I got a bridge to sell you.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right, so here's the reference that he's trying to make is, look, whether it's the devil or whether it's the world or whether it's your own flesh, here's a brilliant piece of advice.

Dr. David Spoon:

Watch yourselves.

Dr. David Spoon:

Be careful.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's easy to get deluded.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's easy to get influenced.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's easy to go down a tangent for a purpose or a cause outside of the kingdom of God.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's easy to get caught up in other wars.

Dr. David Spoon:

Watch yourself.

Dr. David Spoon:

Be careful.

Dr. David Spoon:

Be aware.

Dr. David Spoon:

There's an enemy that hates you ferociously.

Dr. David Spoon:

There's a world that despises you because you name the name of Christ.

Dr. David Spoon:

Christ.

Dr. David Spoon:

There's some flesh inside of you that is just wanting to express itself and get out.

Dr. David Spoon:

So watch yourselves.

Dr. David Spoon:

And he says this so that you do not lose what we have worked for, but you may be fully rewarded.

Dr. David Spoon:

So he's making a pretty interesting statement here.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's not talking about.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I want you to understand, he's not talking about salvation.

Dr. David Spoon:

This is a theological indication that we can suffer a form of loss.

Dr. David Spoon:

But he's not talking about salvation.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's talking about rewards.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's talking about crowns.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's talking about jewels.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's talking about mansions.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's not talking about you being saved.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's talking about you.

Dr. David Spoon:

What you might lose that gets burned up in the fire because we let it go.

Dr. David Spoon:

All the things that we worked hard for, we need to stay steadfast in so that we can take them into eternity when they involve kingdom works.

Dr. David Spoon:

No, you're not going to do everything Perfect.

Dr. David Spoon:

You know that that's what grace is all about.

Dr. David Spoon:

Unmerited favor.

Dr. David Spoon:

But you're doing things.

Dr. David Spoon:

You're praying, you're reading, you're sharing with people.

Dr. David Spoon:

You're growing in the Lord.

Dr. David Spoon:

All these things that you're laying out before the Lord, trying to lay up treasures in Heaven.

Dr. David Spoon:

Wait, was that in the Sermon on the Mount?

Dr. David Spoon:

It was in the Sermon on the Mount.

Dr. David Spoon:

Lay up treasures in heaven.

Dr. David Spoon:

Wait a minute.

Dr. David Spoon:

We can lay up treasures in Heaven?

Dr. David Spoon:

Yes.

Dr. David Spoon:

You can or you cannot lay up that many treasures of heaven.

Dr. David Spoon:

I guess it really depends on what you want.

Dr. David Spoon:

Being born and raised Jewish and becoming a Christian, I think from my perspective, the best investment is the one that gives me the highest return for the longest time.

Dr. David Spoon:

So if I'm laying up treasures in heaven, that's going to give me the longest return eternal.

Dr. David Spoon:

And it'll give me the best return, because it's a return from God.

Dr. David Spoon:

So that's what John is trying to warn us about.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's trying to tell us, hey, be careful, man.

Dr. David Spoon:

Watch yourselves.

Dr. David Spoon:

You need to watch yourselves so you don't lose what you've worked for.

Dr. David Spoon:

You've reached a certain level of faith.

Dr. David Spoon:

Don't let that go.

Dr. David Spoon:

Don't let the enemy put a blight on you.

Dr. David Spoon:

Don't let the world drop you down.

Dr. David Spoon:

Stand firm in where you've come.

Dr. David Spoon:

You are a child of the most high God.

Dr. David Spoon:

Your dad controls the universe.

Dr. David Spoon:

Earth, the universe, or the multiverse, I could care less.

Dr. David Spoon:

It doesn't matter.

Dr. David Spoon:

He controls it.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's your dad.

Dr. David Spoon:

Don't lose what you've worked for, but that you may be fully rewarded.

Dr. David Spoon:

The Lord wants to bless his kids.

Dr. David Spoon:

Now, we're not talking about name it and claim it stuff.

Dr. David Spoon:

We're not going down that road.

Dr. David Spoon:

What we're talking about is that the Lord wants to pour out his presence, his blessing, his favor upon you.

Dr. David Spoon:

You know, anytime you're sitting there wondering, gee, I wonder if God wants to bless me.

Dr. David Spoon:

Yes.

Dr. David Spoon:

Is he going to bless you with everything you want?

Dr. David Spoon:

No.

Dr. David Spoon:

He probably won't give you the Lamborghini with a crocodile in it.

Dr. David Spoon:

Probably wouldn't do you any good.

Dr. David Spoon:

Get it?

Dr. David Spoon:

But he loves to bless his kids.

Dr. David Spoon:

In fact, In Luke chapter 11, verse 13, it says, it's the Father's good pleasure to bring his children the kingdom.

Dr. David Spoon:

So stop thinking that God is tight.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's not the Grinch, Right.

Dr. David Spoon:

You know, that's a movie, right?

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay.

Dr. David Spoon:

God's not Santa Claus.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's not the Grinch.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's not a genie.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's a Loving father who will give his kids what is good for them, not what will hurt them.

Dr. David Spoon:

And some of the things we want might not be the greatest things, but God wants you to be fully rewarded.

Dr. David Spoon:

He wants you to be fully invested in his kingdom.

Dr. David Spoon:

Isn't that beautiful?

Dr. David Spoon:

That's not a bad thing.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's an awesome thing.

Dr. David Spoon:

God wants to bless you.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's not going to bless you based on your terms.

Dr. David Spoon:

Why?

Dr. David Spoon:

Well, one, you're not God.

Dr. David Spoon:

And two, half the time we say we want things, we don't even know what we really want.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's what's great about God.

Dr. David Spoon:

He knows exactly what's in your heart, what you really do want.

Dr. David Spoon:

Sometimes people say they want money when all they want is the security, the safety of knowing that somebody loves them and somebody cares for them.

Dr. David Spoon:

Thinking, I want money, I want money.

Dr. David Spoon:

Because in their back of their mind they're thinking, that'll make me feel kind of comfy.

Dr. David Spoon:

Maybe what you just need is a big hug from your heavenly father.

Dr. David Spoon:

Maybe you just need a little blankie from the Lord that tells you, I know you're going through it.

Dr. David Spoon:

I'm with you.

Dr. David Spoon:

Maybe you need that and not a check.

Dr. David Spoon:

Could be, you know, could be.

Dr. David Spoon:

I'm just saying he knows what we need more than we know what we need.

Dr. David Spoon:

Get that?

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay, cool.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right, so here's what we're going to do on this, because there's another part of this teaching we're to get into.

Dr. David Spoon:

The first thing we're going to do is open up with a trivia question.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let's see who can do this.

Dr. David Spoon:

We're still going to do two trivia questions today that have to do with the connection to yesterday's.

Dr. David Spoon:

And that's on the mom thing, so to speak.

Dr. David Spoon:

So this is a great question.

Dr. David Spoon:

Whose mother was paid to be his nurse?

Dr. David Spoon:

Exodus, chapter 2, verse 8 through 9.

Dr. David Spoon:

Whose mother was paid to be his nurse?

Dr. David Spoon:

What paid to be the nurse?

Dr. David Spoon:

What?

Dr. David Spoon:

Exodus, chapter 2, verse 8, 9.

Dr. David Spoon:

If you think you know, you can reach out to us.

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

Or you can send an email David at.

Dr. David Spoon:

He must increase the trivia question.

Dr. David Spoon:

Whose mother was paid to be his nurse?

Dr. David Spoon:

She's getting paid for nursing.

Dr. David Spoon:

What?

Dr. David Spoon:

Exodus, chapter 2, verse 8 through 9.

Dr. David Spoon:

In the meantime, I'll send you to the website, lots of cool stuff on the Website.

Dr. David Spoon:

If you go up to the website and you see some of the books that are available and you can't afford them, tell us and we will purchase them for you.

Dr. David Spoon:

No cost, no anything, and we will send them to you.

Dr. David Spoon:

Also on the website is about:

Dr. David Spoon:

That's a lot.

Dr. David Spoon:

And then additionally, there's video, audio, there's articles.

Dr. David Spoon:

And there's also a place if you need prayer and want to make that private.

Dr. David Spoon:

There's a place to fill out a form.

Dr. David Spoon:

Nobody gets that information.

Dr. David Spoon:

And there's also a place for appraised report if you want to share that.

Dr. David Spoon:

And plus all that, plus there's a place to give.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I already told you, I'm just being honest.

Dr. David Spoon:

I already told you.

Dr. David Spoon:

Christmas and New Year's, worst financial time for our nonprofit every year.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's what happens at the end of summer.

Dr. David Spoon:

So help us out if you can, but if you can't, don't worry about it.

Dr. David Spoon:

We still want you to enjoy the show and be blessed.

Dr. David Spoon:

Check it all out at the website.

Yeah.

Speaker B:

You mean Cool Whip?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Cool Whip.

Speaker B:

Cool Whip.

Speaker B:

Cool Whip.

Speaker B:

Cool Whip.

Speaker B:

Cool Whip.

Speaker B:

You're saying it weird.

Speaker B:

Why are you putting so much emphasis on the H?

Speaker B:

What are you talking about?

Speaker B:

I'm just saying it.

Speaker B:

Cool Whip.

Dr. David Spoon:

Yeah.

Dr. David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

Dr. David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

Dr. David Spoon:

Don't you love that?

Dr. David Spoon:

I mean, I'm just saying.

Jammin Jacob:

I just love how that one was the one that plays when Tom's here.

Dr. David Spoon:

How is Tom Terrific doing?

Dr. David Spoon:

How's it going?

Jammin Jacob:

He's doing great.

Jammin Jacob:

Taking notes.

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay.

Jammin Jacob:

Now just.

Jammin Jacob:

He'll do good.

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay.

Dr. David Spoon:

And then.

Dr. David Spoon:

And then.

Dr. David Spoon:

I guess he's probably learning that we do a lot of weird references.

Jammin Jacob:

Yes, Yes.

Jammin Jacob:

I played one earlier before the show to test it, and it was the Phil Collins drums.

Jammin Jacob:

Yeah.

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right.

Dr. David Spoon:

Very, very cool.

Dr. David Spoon:

Don't forget to keep Terrific Tom in prayer.

Dr. David Spoon:

So he's going to be helping on Monday.

Dr. David Spoon:

Pinch inning.

Dr. David Spoon:

Additionally, don't forget Don and Jennifer and Jam and Jacob to keep them in your prayers.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right, the trivia question, it's not complex.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's pretty simple.

Dr. David Spoon:

If you are following the scripture, whose mother was paid to be his nurse.

Dr. David Spoon:

Something to do with the Nile River.

Dr. David Spoon:

Something along those lines.

Dr. David Spoon:

Exodus 2, 8, 9.

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

-:

Dr. David Spoon:

this next portion of the scripture is tough.

Dr. David Spoon:

I'm telling you that now, so you know it ahead of time.

Dr. David Spoon:

Verse 8.

Dr. David Spoon:

Watch yourselves so that you do not lose what we've worked for, but you may be fully rewarded.

Dr. David Spoon:

Verse 9.

Dr. David Spoon:

Anyone who runs ahead without remaining in the teachings of Christ does not have God.

Dr. David Spoon:

Whoever remains in his teaching has both the Father and the Son.

Dr. David Spoon:

Clear lines of distinction are being drawn by the apostle.

Dr. David Spoon:

And he's talking about people that run ahead.

Dr. David Spoon:

What does that mean?

Dr. David Spoon:

That means that they're coming into this idea that they have some kind of unique, advanced knowledge that nobody else has.

Dr. David Spoon:

And they're super, super spiritual because of it.

Dr. David Spoon:

And the scripture tells you ridiculous.

Dr. David Spoon:

The Lord's not sitting there going, I'm going to let this person know and nobody else, just because I like the way they part their hair.

Dr. David Spoon:

That doesn't work that way.

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay, what we need to understand is some people, instead of walking side by side or walking closely behind the Lord, they run up in front of the Lord.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's the image.

Dr. David Spoon:

And it's.

Dr. David Spoon:

Can you imagine?

Dr. David Spoon:

So God knows everything that you're gonna go through, right?

Dr. David Spoon:

You don't know what's around the corner, but God does, and he's already around the corner.

Dr. David Spoon:

Can you imagine the foolishness of trying to run ahead of God, not having a clue what you're about to face?

Dr. David Spoon:

That's what he's talking about.

Dr. David Spoon:

And he's talking about.

Dr. David Spoon:

These people have this weirdness.

Dr. David Spoon:

They have this advanced knowledge.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's like ridiculous.

Dr. David Spoon:

Anyone who runs ahead without remaining in the teaching of Christ, in other words, they're going past what Jesus is teaching.

Dr. David Spoon:

Hey, I got a brilliant response to this.

Dr. David Spoon:

Where do we find the teachings of Christ?

Dr. David Spoon:

Let's see.

Dr. David Spoon:

Could it be Matthew, Mark, Luke and John?

Dr. David Spoon:

The Gospels, as well as the entire Old Testament, as well as the remainder of the New Testament.

Dr. David Spoon:

Hey, guess what?

Dr. David Spoon:

Jesus is called the Word of God.

Dr. David Spoon:

John 1:1 2.

Dr. David Spoon:

And the teachings of Jesus are the key to everything we do.

Dr. David Spoon:

In fact, doctrine, by the way, According to Paul 1 Timothy 1:11, is based on the Gospels.

Dr. David Spoon:

You want to know people that are going ahead of Jesus?

Dr. David Spoon:

If you know Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, you'll know what's not in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Dr. David Spoon:

People bringing a different gospel.

Dr. David Spoon:

By the way, Paul specifically talks about a different Gospel in Galatians, chapter 1.

Dr. David Spoon:

Additionally, in Corinthians he talks about people preaching a different Jesus.

Dr. David Spoon:

You know, people are like, oh, Jesus, we all love Jesus.

Dr. David Spoon:

We all love Jesus.

Dr. David Spoon:

Do you know there is a different Jesus?

Dr. David Spoon:

One that's not according to the scripture.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's what the scripture teaches.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's why we're Bible believing.

Dr. David Spoon:

Born again Christians.

Dr. David Spoon:

Are we Baptists?

Dr. David Spoon:

Pentecostals?

Dr. David Spoon:

Are we Presbyterians?

Dr. David Spoon:

Are we Methodists?

Dr. David Spoon:

Are we this?

Dr. David Spoon:

Who cares?

Dr. David Spoon:

You know what?

Dr. David Spoon:

You are a child of the most High God because you believe in the redeeming work of Jesus Christ and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Dr. David Spoon:

Christianity is not a religion.

Dr. David Spoon:

Religion is a set of rules.

Dr. David Spoon:

Christianity is a living relationship with the living God made possible through the redeeming work of Jesus Christ and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Dr. David Spoon:

Make it something less and you're insulting God.

Dr. David Spoon:

What's he doing?

Dr. David Spoon:

He's looking to spend eternity with people.

Dr. David Spoon:

And you're thinking, well, the way that you say it, Dave, more people will go to hell than they will to heaven.

Dr. David Spoon:

I didn't say that.

Dr. David Spoon:

Jesus did.

Dr. David Spoon:

He said, why does the path to destruction narrow?

Dr. David Spoon:

Is the path that leads to life?

Dr. David Spoon:

I didn't write the book.

Dr. David Spoon:

I just know how to read.

Dr. David Spoon:

Well, most of the time.

Dr. David Spoon:

So you're thinking, Dave, what, are you upset?

Dr. David Spoon:

No, I'm telling you that John is writing this and teaching this to the church, to warn the church.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's like, be careful.

Dr. David Spoon:

He's like, look, these people, they run ahead without remaining in the teaching of Christ.

Dr. David Spoon:

They don't have God.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's what he says.

Dr. David Spoon:

They don't have God.

Dr. David Spoon:

Yikes.

Dr. David Spoon:

They claim they do.

Dr. David Spoon:

They don't even know him.

Dr. David Spoon:

But whoever remains in the teachings of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

Dr. David Spoon:

Wow.

Dr. David Spoon:

I guess that doesn't make it overly complex.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let's stick to the teachings.

Dr. David Spoon:

And people are like, well, I could be a Christian without knowing Jesus.

Dr. David Spoon:

So you can be a Christian without Christ.

Dr. David Spoon:

That's like Christmas without Christ.

Dr. David Spoon:

Also phony.

Dr. David Spoon:

Get it?

Dr. David Spoon:

Okay, cool.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right, Dave, calm down.

Dr. David Spoon:

I'll let you know.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right, your trivia question.

Dr. David Spoon:

Whose mother was paid to be his nurse?

Dr. David Spoon:

What a great gig that is, right?

Dr. David Spoon:

Exodus, chapter 2, verse 8 through 9.

Dr. David Spoon:

The answer to that is Moses.

Dr. David Spoon:

Remember when Pharaoh's daughter found him in the water?

Dr. David Spoon:

And then the sister brought the mom over to help nurse, and then she got paid for it.

Dr. David Spoon:

Pretty nice deal if you can get it.

Dr. David Spoon:

All right, we'll take our break and then come back.

Dr. David Spoon:

You're listening to the David Spoon experience right here on KAM 770.

Dr. David Spoon:

The true stationary in Texas.

Dr. David Spoon:

Short break.

Dr. David Spoon:

We'll be back.

Dr. David Spoon:

Don't go anywhere.

Speaker B:

The David Spoon experience.

Dr. David Spoon:

So we chatted about it on the phone, and it turned out that he had a pastor who used to be his pastor reach out to him and say, the Lord put you on my heart.

Dr. David Spoon:

You know, I want to know what's going on with your life.

Dr. David Spoon:

He had another person say, hey, if you got this situation, let me know.

Dr. David Spoon:

He was talking to me.

Dr. David Spoon:

He was talking to somebody else.

Dr. David Spoon:

And it was like he had, like, four sources of support and didn't even realize that what he was seeing was the circumstance, which we all do.

Dr. David Spoon:

And when we pulled it back and looked at it, he's like, yeah, there's like four different places he was getting support from.

Dr. David Spoon:

And it's like, that's amazing.

Dr. David Spoon:

But see, that's not that amazing in the context of just what Peter and John said when they went into the temple.

Dr. David Spoon:

Children, you men of Israel, why does this miracle surprise you?

Dr. David Spoon:

Why does it even surprise us?

Dr. David Spoon:

God does so many things to reach to us and to speak to us.

Dr. David Spoon:

He is never.

Dr. David Spoon:

Let me just say this.

Dr. David Spoon:

He is never absent from your tragedy.

Dr. David Spoon:

He has never disappeared from your circumstance.

Dr. David Spoon:

It's never happened.

Dr. David Spoon:

Long before you said, yes, God said yes to you.

Dr. David Spoon:

Just think about the level of that, the commitment that would take.

Dr. David Spoon:

That means that God looked at my life and in spite of my.

Dr. David Spoon:

In spite of my insanities, said, yeah, we'll take him.

Dr. David Spoon:

Is that a me?

Dr. David Spoon:

Think about how amazing that is.

Dr. David Spoon:

And so I was.

Dr. David Spoon:

Somebody had sent me a video about somebody who had an experience in heaven.

Dr. David Spoon:

And I was like, well, you know, I like some of those, but some of those are kind of weird and squirrely and da, da, da, da.

Dr. David Spoon:

And then the Lord was reminding me about my own dream that I had about making it in heaven, where God had.

Dr. David Spoon:

The king had his arm around me and he showed me different things in my life.

Dr. David Spoon:

And here's what you accepted, my son, let me tell you something.

Dr. David Spoon:

God will reach you and touch you and speak to you.

Dr. David Spoon:

The biggest question for all of us is, are we listening?

Dr. David Spoon:

Do you remember what happened when the Lord spoke over Jesus?

Dr. David Spoon:

The Father spoke from heaven over Jesus.

Dr. David Spoon:

And the Bible says that the people thought that it thundered, but it didn't thunder.

Dr. David Spoon:

God spoke.

Dr. David Spoon:

See?

Dr. David Spoon:

What?

Dr. David Spoon:

See that right there?

Dr. David Spoon:

That right there.

Dr. David Spoon:

Because what we do is we think what thundered, but it's God speaking.

Dr. David Spoon:

The biggest question is, are we listening?

David Spoon

David Spoon was born and raised in a Jewish home in Detroit, Michigan. He attended a private Hebrew school called Hillel Hebrew Academy. David was bar mitzvah-ed at the age of thirteen. Not long after, he was involved in drug abuse and trafficking. After hearing the Gospel for the first time at age seventeen, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. A few months later, David had a dramatic experience with God. Immediately set free from years of excessive drug use, he committed himself to ministry and to furthering the Kingdom of God.

He attended Arizona Bible College, Northern Arizona University, and Life Pacific College, graduating summa-cum-laude in their Ministry and Leadership program. He also graduated with honors from Regent University with a master’s degree in Theological Studies and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Strategic Christian Ministry at Liberty University.

He is one of a few individuals holding ministerial ordinations from three separate denominations: Heritage Free Baptist Organization, 1981; Independent Pentecostal Ministers Association, 1985; and Vineyard Valley Association, 1988. He was also the Chaplain for the Flagstaff Police Department. In addition, David was the senior pastor of Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Flagstaff.

In addition, David started and co-hosted two different live Christian call-in radio talk shows. He hosted the very popular radio show “The David Spoon Experience” on KPRZ 1210 and a show called “To Know Him,” which aired on 88.9 on the F.M. dial-in Temecula, California at 1:00 p.m., Monday through Fridays. He was also the Director of Local Ministry for Salem Media Group in San Diego, California.

David is married to his best friend, Noelle. He has three children and seven grandchildren, plus their two dogs named Levi and Bert. On March 18th, 2019, he started “The David Spoon Experience” in Texas and is growing with his audience of awesome believers and non-believers alike.

He is the President of He Must Increase Ministry, a 501c3 ministry, and is hosting (again) the live daily radio show “The David Spoon Experience” with DJR Broadcasting in KAAM, on the 770 A.M. radio dial. The show is also on various apps and the Internet.

David is a Jewish-Christian, Bapti-Costal, Cal-Minian, Manifold Millennialist.

Just ask him.
