The David Spoon Experience 12-1-23 part 1
A) As we “hold out our faith.” That means that there can be zero (or no) hiding like a mouse about our commitment to Jesus. It doesn’t mean that we need to have a bumper stick. But it does mean that any form of genuine denial is unacceptable. As we do this, don’t show favoritism. In simple terms, we can’t be “class” snobs because it doesn’t reflect Jesus, but it does reflect the Pharisees. There is no Christ-authorized permission for class separation. That doesn’t mean that every person you meet is the best person ever. Some people…are actually jerks.
B) The example is critical to understanding the context. In churches, rich people look better, smell better, and have a form of attraction to them. The poor, not so much. If we over-serve the rich by giving them preferential treatment, we sin. Allow me to attempt to share a story about the wealthy church and the poor man who visited them.
C) Here is a secret. God has BLESSED the poor with a greater sense of faith than the Why is that important? Because it is contrary to the popular secular notion that God has blessed the rich simply because they are rich. God does bless people. And He does bless people with wealth. But on the larger scale, that is not the same as He has given the poor that greatest edge of all…Faith. Because it takes faith to please God. That is why some people have given up and given away all their goods.
