David Spoon:Well, one of them is simply so that you can answer that question.

David Spoon:And then the other thing is that maybe you've got a praise report.
David Spoon:Why is that important?
David Spoon:Because let the redeemed of the Lord say so.
David Spoon:If God has redeemed you and blessed you and given you great favor, you ought to acknowledge that.
David Spoon:Not trying to guilt you, I'm trying to encourage you.
David Spoon:You don't have to speak brilliantly, but sharing it is very helpful.
David Spoon:Praise reports, bless people, they encourage it in your own life because you're reinforcing it.
David Spoon:And then on top of that, they glorify the Lord.
David Spoon:So it's a win, win, win.
David Spoon:Now maybe you got a prayer request, you got something that prayer and we need to get through this, we need to get to this.
David Spoon:Maybe it's not something that's really hard, maybe it's something that's really good.
David Spoon:You just need to know what to do.
David Spoon:That's good too.
David Spoon:The thing is we've got to get out of this mindset as Christians saying we pray when things are just tough.
David Spoon:You should be praying all the time.
David Spoon:It says pray without ceasing.
David Spoon:You should be praying when things are tough, you should be praying when things are not tough.
David Spoon:You should be praying when things are great.
David Spoon:You should be praying when things are not great.
David Spoon:You should be praying in the beginning, in the middle and at the end of everything.
David Spoon:Because all that does is make sure that you have God at the center of what you're doing.
David Spoon:That's just a good idea, right?
David Spoon:So if you've got a prayer request, we want you to reach out to us.
David Spoon:You can call us, text us, or email us, or even if you've got a scripture or something that's going on in your heart and mind, you just want to share it, right?
David Spoon:We're not against politics.
David Spoon:I don't like people saying that that's not true.
David Spoon:We're just against it being a God designed government.
David Spoon:Right?
David Spoon:I mean that's what you ultimately want.
David Spoon:A theocratic, pure theocratic, not a fake one.
David Spoon:And, but we do want to be aware, you to be aware that our goal here is to encourage people to draw closer to the Lord because it doesn't matter what happens if you draw closer to the Lord, that's the right answer.
David Spoon:Always, every time, no matter what people say, what God says is what counts.
David Spoon:And drawing near to him, that's the key.
David Spoon:So you can have a prayer request, a praise report, maybe you've got a scripture you want to share, something that's on your heart and mind.
David Spoon:Not a problem.

David Spoon:So you should definitely get prepared for that in the meantime and forgive me if I've got a little bit of a gruff voice, you can get through it.
David Spoon:Every host has done it ever.
David Spoon:Here's where we're at in scripture and I want to make sure you understand.
David Spoon:I will tell you that on our book, by the way, Jacob helping me out.
David Spoon:We're about 74% done of the meat of the book.
David Spoon:So we started in October 22nd.
David Spoon:We're going to be done with this before the end of the month.
David Spoon:That's two and a half months faster than the last book.
David Spoon:So that's pretty good.
David Spoon:I'm happy about that.
David Spoon:Now into the text we go, Matthew chapter 20.
David Spoon:And picking it up at verse 17 and this is where Jesus predicts his death.
David Spoon:As Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem, he took the 12 disciples aside privately and told them what was going to happen to him when we get to Jerusalem, he said, the Son of man will be betrayed to the leading priests and teachers of religious law.
David Spoon:They will sentence him to die and then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, whipped and crucified.
David Spoon:But on the third day, he will be raised from the dead.
David Spoon: or Matthew: David Spoon:So I want to make sure everybody is on board and know what's going on.
David Spoon:We're more than halfway through this first gospel and Jesus is going to Jerusalem.
David Spoon:So Jesus takes a moment and pulls his disciples aside privately and he says, this is what's going to happen.
David Spoon:Now think about that.
David Spoon:If you're a disciple of Jesus Christ and you have put all of your eggs in the basket of Jesus and you have left family and home and business for a season anyway, and you are following Jesus and the one that you are following the Messiah, something's going to happen to him that's going to be so challenging.
David Spoon:So he tells them ahead of time, look, they're going to kill me.
David Spoon:Now, there's a couple of different places in scripture where this is mentioned.
David Spoon:Of course, the first time it's mentioned in Mark, Jesus has to rebuke Peter because he doesn't want that to happen.
David Spoon:It's not that he didn't want him to happen because Peter's bad.
David Spoon:He just has in mind the things of man and not the things of God.
David Spoon:Jesus is telling them ahead of time.
David Spoon:So for those that have a struggle on the eschatological side of things, about the end times and so on and so forth, Jesus tells his disciples what's going to happen to him.
David Spoon:Jesus tells us what's going to take place.
David Spoon:Is it going to be the exact way that this group interprets or this group interprets?
David Spoon:Who knows?
David Spoon:Who wouldn't be?
David Spoon:For there's a trumpet.
David Spoon:We're out, we're done.
David Spoon:I mean, who wouldn't want that?
David Spoon:I mean, everybody wants that.
David Spoon:If it doesn't happen that way, you need to be strong in the faith.
David Spoon:Okay, fine.
David Spoon:They didn't get it the first time he came.
David Spoon:I'm not sure they're going to get it the second time.
David Spoon:But he does tell us things ahead of time for us to be prepared.
David Spoon:What he does tell them is this.
David Spoon:And this is where it gets really intense.
David Spoon:He tells them, we're going to get to Jerusalem, and this is a city that should celebrate my arrival.
David Spoon:And when I get there initially, they're going to.
David Spoon:Isn't that great?
David Spoon:Initial arrival.
David Spoon:It's going to be great.
David Spoon:He's going to be coming into Jerusalem.
David Spoon:People are going to be so happy, Right?
David Spoon:But it doesn't stay that way.
David Spoon:Did you hear what I said?
David Spoon:It starts off, it's going to be really good when they get to Jerusalem, but it ain't going to stay that way.
David Spoon:And this is a substantial Christian lesson that how things start off is not always how they Finish.
David Spoon:And why that's important for you and I to understand is simply for this reason.
David Spoon:Tenacity, bulldoggedness, a determination.
David Spoon:We have things going on in our country, and people are more favorable, feeling a little more comfortable, depending on the political spectrum.
David Spoon:But the warfare is not over.
David Spoon:Satan did not go pack his bags and go to Aruba.
David Spoon:And it doesn't just stop where it is now.
David Spoon:There's more coming, and we need to be aware of it, and we need to be fortified.
David Spoon:And in fact, if, in fact it happens even close to any of the schools of thought on eschatology, it's going to get worse.
David Spoon:And you should know that as a Christian, perhaps the Lord will pull us out fly by fly.
David Spoon:We're gone, it's done.
David Spoon:I, of course, would prefer.
David Spoon:Who wouldn't want that?
David Spoon:But if he tarries, then we are to occupy until he comes.
David Spoon:And how things start off is not always how they end.
David Spoon:There's an old saying in golf.
David Spoon:You drive for show, but you putt for dough.
David Spoon:And what that means is the drive is what everybody looks at when you hit the golf ball.
David Spoon:Like, ooh, what a great drive.
David Spoon:Ooh.
David Spoon:But the only thing that counts is when you put the ball in the hole, and that's the putting time.
David Spoon:It's how we finish, not how we start.
David Spoon:And in your faith, I want to say this really forcefully, in your faith, it is how you finish.
David Spoon:Paul said, I finished the fight.
David Spoon:I have stayed the course.
David Spoon:The enemy is going to try and push Christians over.
David Spoon:If you've never had spiritual warfare take place in your life, it just shows you how good he really is, because he is a thief.
David Spoon:And if you've ever been robbed of your faith, God's not the one robbing it.
David Spoon:So the enemy is against us, and we need to be aware of us.
David Spoon:And he's prepping these guys, tell them it's going to get tough.
David Spoon:You guys have to really hang in there.
David Spoon:And you know their attitude, right?
David Spoon:We can do anything.
David Spoon:We can do anything.
David Spoon:Right.
David Spoon:That doesn't exactly pan out that way.
David Spoon:It doesn't mean they abandoned Christ in the sense that they no longer believe, but they didn't necessarily hold.
David Spoon:Certainly true of Peter.
David Spoon:Right.
David Spoon:So we need to remember that we need to be steadfast.
David Spoon:I think it's great that a lot of people that I'm connected to have a sense of, you know, there's a hope and there's a confidence, and I think that's fantastic.
David Spoon:And I don't want to rain on that parade, but I will not Allow in my life or any other person's life that I engage with the ability to think that nothing else could happen.
David Spoon:You need to be prepared.
David Spoon:In fact, one of the things I was thinking is that, man, if anybody's considering anything a political vigil, you should be praying even more now.
David Spoon:We want our leaders to be directed by God.
David Spoon:You don't want the media directing anything.
David Spoon:They're the biggest bunch of liars in the world.
David Spoon:You don't want Hollywood doing it.
David Spoon:They're actors, they're fake.
David Spoon:You don't want academia doing it because they're only doing it for their own prestige.
David Spoon:And you don't want politicians to do it because they say one thing and do another and do what's expedient.
David Spoon:It's like, no, as Christians, we take it to the Lord.
David Spoon:We show the warfare.
David Spoon:We bring it on our hands and knees with faith and with confidence, trusting that God will change things.
David Spoon:Who he uses is awesome.
David Spoon:Never forget, he can use a donkey to rebuke a prophet, but we still need it to be its origin source of God.
David Spoon:So it's not just where we're at now.
David Spoon:It's where we're going to finish.
David Spoon:And that's a big, big deal.
David Spoon:And then Jesus goes on to tell them, I'm going to be betrayed by the priests and the teachers of the law.
David Spoon:Listen to this.

David Spoon:Because I'm going to stop here and do the trivia question, but listen to what I'm going to say.
David Spoon:He's making it clear that there will people that use law and lawfare against him.
David Spoon:It didn't start with Donald Trump.
David Spoon:It's been going on for thousands of years.
David Spoon:Same thing, no different.
David Spoon:Does that mean Donald Trump's like Jesus?

David Spoon:We're all subject to that warfare.
David Spoon:That's why you have to stand firm in your faith.

David Spoon:Now, just in case you're wondering how that can happen, just take a look at the political landscaping.
David Spoon:And you see it happened to a prominent person.
David Spoon:Donald Trump is like, you don't think they can do that to Christians?
David Spoon:You're wrong.
David Spoon:That's why you stand in the truth.
David Spoon:That's why you stand firm.
David Spoon:Will we have to go through.
David Spoon:I hope not.
David Spoon:I hope we don't have to go through it, but if we do, we're not going to abandon the faith.
David Spoon:That's my point.
David Spoon:Do you understand what I'm trying to say?
David Spoon:And so Jesus then tells them, listen, the religious leaders, this is what they're going to do.
David Spoon:They're going to falsely accuse me, they're going to lie about me.
David Spoon:And then Jesus says this, which is so amazing.
David Spoon:He said, then the Romans, the actual government, will carry out the penalties.
David Spoon:So what you get to see, before you get into eschatology, what you get to see in the gospels is false religious people and the government working hand in hand to try and stop truth.
David Spoon:That's what you see.
David Spoon:To try and shut down God's Messiah, the government becomes the instrument of the infliction of the pain and suffering that was going to be brought against Jesus by these false representatives of God.
David Spoon:And they manipulated the law for their own benefit.
David Spoon:But then Jesus also says this, and this is the part that I just want to be in that moment when he has that private meeting with the 12.
David Spoon:Then Jesus says this, they're going to hand him over to the Romans.
David Spoon:He's going to be mocked, he's going to be whipped, he's going to be crucified.
David Spoon:But on the third day, he will be raised from the dead.
David Spoon:You just want to go, did you guys get that part right there?
David Spoon:Hey, guess what?
David Spoon:Jesus, he's not going to stay on the cross.
David Spoon:It might be Friday, but Sunday is coming.
David Spoon:It might be Friday because the crucifixion is dark.
David Spoon:But you know what's coming after that?
David Spoon:Resurrection.
David Spoon:And so sometimes I think Christians get caught on the Friday.
David Spoon:Hey, stop that.
David Spoon:He said, the very last thing he said is, but third day raised from the dead.
David Spoon:Isn't that the thing we should be focusing on?
David Spoon:It's not Christian existentialism.
David Spoon:Paul said, if we only have hope in this lifetime of being Christians, we're of all men most miserable.
David Spoon:That's in the scripture.
David Spoon:What we need to recognize is even if there's going to be tough times, even if there's going to be challenges.
David Spoon:It's Friday, but Sunday is coming, and we need to live on in Sunday.
David Spoon:You can't live on Friday.
David Spoon:And what I mean by that is you can't live on the crucifixion side.
David Spoon:You can't live on all the downside.
David Spoon:You can't live on all the negative.
David Spoon:Look, none of that stuff's going to be good.
David Spoon:They're going to mock him, they're going to whip him, they're going to spit on him, they're going to beat him.
David Spoon:All of that's bad, right?
David Spoon:But out of all of that emerges this eternal life with God unmatchable, unchallengeable, the quality of which we cannot even entertain in our own minds.
David Spoon:Hey, you got a Friday going on right now.
David Spoon:Here's my answer.
David Spoon:Sunday's coming.
David Spoon:You got a lot going on right now.
David Spoon:Sunday's coming.
David Spoon:It's a promise from Jesus.
David Spoon:All things work together for good.
David Spoon:To them that love God, that are called according to his purposes.
David Spoon:In all these things, we are more than conquerors.
David Spoon:If God is for us, who can be against us?
David Spoon:Sunday is coming.
David Spoon:Live in the Sunday, not the Friday.
David Spoon:Live in the resurrection, not the crucifixion.
David Spoon:For the hope that was set before us.
David Spoon:Yes.

Co-host:Our words will justify us or condemn us.
Co-host:And we understand our words will justify us or condemn us because they reveal our hearts.
Co-host:So therefore, in conclusion, that our words justify us or condemn us because they reveal our hearts, we need to remember and operate and function in Ephesians 5:20, which says this, and actually you can even look at verse 19.
Co-host:Speak to one another in Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
Co-host:Ephesians 5:19.
Co-host:Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Co-host:Because you know that by your words you're justified and condemned.
Co-host:Because you know they reveal your heart you ought to make sure that you follow the scriptures that Paul commands us to follow.
Co-host:And you ought to be being thankful in everything.
Co-host:You ought to be being thankful in everything.
Co-host:And if you are thankful in everything, that will be a part of your verbalization or your speech, and that will be a revelation as to what's in your heart.
Co-host:Are you a thankful Christian for everything?
Co-host:And you say, well, Dave, I'm thankful that he saved me, but I'm going through this trial and I don't like it.
Co-host:I'm not so thankful for the trial.
Co-host:And I say, I understand.
Co-host:I understand.
Co-host:That again, not a new revelation coming right here.
Co-host:Romans, chapter 8, verse 28 tells you the ticket, the method, the system by which you can be thankful in everything.
Co-host:Dave, you mean I should be thankful in a divorce proceeding?
Co-host:I should be thankful that my brother is a drug addict?
Co-host:I should be thankful that I'm going bankrupt?
Co-host:I should be thankful that these terrible things are happening or that I should be thankful that I can't sleep?
David Spoon:No.
Co-host:I think you should read Romans 8:28 with me and respond to this.
Co-host:And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him.
Co-host:So I think the answer is, can you be thankful in all those things?
Co-host:Yes.
Co-host:For going through a divorce?
David Spoon:No.
Co-host:But that God is going to work into your lives good things through this process?
David Spoon:Absolutely.
Co-host:If you don't believe that God is going to work things that are good into your lives and your trial, you don't believe anything he says.
Co-host:Because one of the greatest premises that Jesus laid down is, and I caught this just earlier this week, let not your hearts be troubled.
Co-host:There will be trouble in the world.
Co-host:I've overcome the world.
David Spoon:It's like.
Co-host:But Jesus said, don't let your heart be troubled.
Co-host:As though we had a choice.
David Spoon:We do.
Co-host:We do.
Co-host:And we should be thankful in all of it while we're going through for the actual drug addiction?
Co-host:No, but that God's not going to give up on the person.
Co-host:He's going to work good out of it.
