Speaker A:And I really encourage anybody who's affected by it in any way to embrace it and do the same.
Speaker A:Next.
Speaker A:Through the journey, we have moments that challenge our faith.
Speaker A:It's easy to fall into disappointment and discouragement depending on the level of the trial and the fixation of our sight.
Speaker A:When we enter this place, it creates a sense of distance between us and the Lord.
Speaker A:The irony, of course, is that if God feels far, he didn't move, we did.
Speaker A:And what we're missing is one key moment.
Speaker A:Remember what I've been saying of late.
Speaker A:God is not just a waymaker, like the song says, he's also a moment maker.
Speaker A:And finally, for each one of us, when we encounter this moment, we will improve our dependence upon the Lord God Almighty.
Speaker A:We'll become aware of distractions that try to take us off the journey.
Speaker A:But we will also come into this wondrous place of deliverance.
Speaker A:God took the children of Israel from bondage, through the wilderness and into the promised land.
Speaker A:Hey, you know what?

Speaker A:And you get your conscious mind moving and you get moving and you step up and maybe you let the dog out.
Speaker A:Whatever the case may be, get your brain together and say, lord, whatever you want.
Speaker A:That's what we should be.
Speaker A:That's what Lord means.
Speaker A:He's our master.
Speaker A:And so it's like, whatever you want, make sure you're doing that.
Speaker A:Always ready to serve, to be used by him in whatever capacity.
Speaker A:It could be silent intercession for somebody.
Speaker A:Maybe the Lord put somebody on your mind.
Speaker A:I've had that happen so many times today.
Speaker A:In fact, just so you know.
Speaker A:In fact, I prayed for somebody today that I had not heard from.
Speaker A:This not a joke.
Speaker A:I had not heard from them in about two and a half months.
Speaker A:Guess who I heard from today?
Speaker A:That person.
Speaker A:You can't, you can't make this stuff up.
Speaker A:It's not possible.
Speaker A:There's no way.
Speaker A:And that's what the Lord does.
Speaker A:So you always want to be ready to serve.

Speaker A:Now I want to go back to this trivia question because some people are missing it and it could be how I'm saying it.

Speaker A:Laban who ended up being his servant for seven years, then seven years or seven years, seven years and then six more years.

Speaker A:Who was that that served Laban for that long?
Speaker A:Genesis 29, 30 and 31.
Speaker A:A very well known person who also wrestled with a superior being.
Speaker A:Who would that be?
Speaker A:Think about that, if you will, for a moment.

Speaker A:This is super, super good.
Speaker A:I promise you, if you will listen, if you're able to get through the static and you can just listen for a little bit, I promise you this will be a lesson that you will be able to use.
Speaker A:It's a lesson I use on a regular basis.
Speaker A:I just promise it's the case.
Speaker A:We're going to pick this up with the background in 1st Samuel 30.
Speaker A:I'm just giving you a little background.
Speaker A:Just quick, quick, quick, so you can catch up right now as you remember or as you might have forgotten.
Speaker A:But I'm trying to remind you, Saul Tried to kill David because Saul was jealous of David.
Speaker A:Everybody was singing David's praises.
Speaker A:And Saul was like, he's gonna replace me as king.
Speaker A:So Saul tried to kill David cause he was jealous.
Speaker A:David, two different times, spares Saul's life.
Speaker A:Could have taken him out.
Speaker A:Didn't take him out.
Speaker A:Could have, didn't.
Speaker A:Achish, one of the kings, takes David in.
Speaker A:He's a foreign king, and he questions David about what he's doing.
Speaker A:And so David goes, you know, I'm raiding the Israelites because they're trying to get me and nobody likes me anymore, and I'm just going after them.
Speaker A:But in fact, the truth is, David was lying.
Speaker A:He was just read the book.
Speaker A:David was really raiding the Philistine outposts.
Speaker A:So at Aphek, David goes with the Philistines, and he's acting like he's going to fight against Israel.
Speaker A:Well, the other Philistine kings didn't trust David.
Speaker A:They thought that he would turn on them during the battle.
Speaker A:So they sent him back home, sending him back home so that they wouldn't get too timed down by David.
Speaker A:And so David comes back to Ziklag after being sent home by the other Philistine kings.
Speaker A:And that's where we pick it up.
Speaker A:In 1st Samuel 30, it says this David and his men reached Ziklag on the third day.
Speaker A:Now, the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag.
Speaker A:They attacked Ziklag and burned it.
Speaker A:They had taken captive the women and everyone else, both young and old.
Speaker A:They killed none of them, but carried them off as they went on their way.
Speaker A:When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire.
Speaker A:And their wives and their sons had been taken captive.
Speaker A:Wow, that is some story, right?
Speaker A:Here's the first thing I want to talk to you about.
Speaker A:You should know it because you've probably been alive more than three or four minutes.
Speaker A:There are things that are very disappointing.
Speaker A:There are things that aren't the way we hoped they would be.
Speaker A:They turn out to be much darker than we were thinking.
Speaker A:Much worse.
Speaker A:This can happen in jobs, it can happen in relationships.
Speaker A:It happens in circumstances oftentimes.
Speaker A:And we're just like, what?
Speaker A:So David, doing his best, trying to stay out of Saul's way, goes to a foreign country amongst the Philistine area, right?
Speaker A:He's up there hanging out.
Speaker A:He's actually doing damage to them, but he's thinking he's got a pretty good cover.
Speaker A:He's supposed to go with the Philistines to attack Israel.
Speaker A:He acts like he's gonna go, he never gets the chance.
Speaker A:Cause they send him back to his city that he's staying at.
Speaker A:He comes back to Ziklag thinking, gosh, that didn't go well.
Speaker A:And they get there and all of the women and children are gone and the city has been destroyed by fire.
Speaker A:Talk about coming back to a mess.
Speaker A:That's what happened.
Speaker A:You thinking that's what David wanted?
Speaker A:Of course that's not what he wanted.
Speaker A:It went south, so to speak.
Speaker A:It went the wrong direction.
Speaker A:It wasn't good.
Speaker A:He was exceedingly disappointment.
Speaker A:But don't stop there.
Speaker A:I want you to catch this.
Speaker A:In verse four, it says, so David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.
Speaker A:What does that mean?
Speaker A:That means it was so devastating, it was such a disappointment that there was not only a disappointment in the understanding of the situation, but there was an emotional impact.
Speaker A:And the insides of all these people felt like they were on fire.
Speaker A:Ever been there?
Speaker A:I know you have.
Speaker A:I know you have.
Speaker A:I have too, more times than I want to admit.
Speaker A:But what happens is from disappointment comes this discouragement.
Speaker A:And that disappointment is more on the external mental kind of processing thing.
Speaker A:The discouragement is the feelings of it all.
Speaker A:And it's brutal.
Speaker A:It hurts.
Speaker A:And when we come back, we're going to examine what's the next thing that happened because I want to follow it in sequence all the way through.
Speaker A:But before we do that, we are going to answer the trivia question because we did have a trivia question just so everybody can know.
Speaker A:And the trivia question was, who ended up being Laban's servant for many, many years?
Speaker A:Many, many years.
Speaker A:I think it was 20, total seven.
Speaker A:Seven and then six.
Speaker A:And the answer to that is from Genesis 29, 30 and 31.
Speaker A:Jacob.
Speaker A:Jacob ended up being a servant for 20 years to Laban.
Speaker A:Ouch.
Speaker A:I mean, ouch.

Speaker A:Let me give you an update on Easton Scott.
Speaker A:A lot of tough stuff that my daughter and my son in law have been going through.
Speaker A:I did send an email out.
Speaker A:I don't know if Julie, if you got the email or not.
Speaker A:I just sent it out to everybody.
Speaker A:So he was going through 20 and 30 seizures per episode and they've got that down to a dramatically less amount.
Speaker A:But the sad news is that from a medical point of view.
Speaker A:Easton does not, it does not appear as, according to the doctors, that he will be able to speak or, or will be able to care for himself.
Speaker A:And so what the result of that is is that Julianne and Jared, my son in law and my daughter have recognized that God has put them in a position to be the best parents to love Easton Scott with all that they can and give them the best life that they can.
Speaker A:But while that's going on, they're not going to stop believing that something can change.
Speaker A:And the doctors even said this is territory we don't even know.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:Because this is a problem that not very many people have had.
Speaker A:So very few.
Speaker A:Everybody is different.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And they have like 230 total cases in the world that they have records on, which is like, so they're like, we don't know.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:And it's like, so I just want to read this one thing my daughter wrote.
Speaker A:It's a fantastic.
Speaker A:She wrote this.
Speaker A:You know, it's not easy to sit there and write a Facebook post that tells all the things you've been going through.
Speaker A:And so I'm not going to read everything, but I'm going to read the last paragraph because I thought that was really significant.
Speaker A:She wrote, scientifically, Easton does not have much of a chance.
Speaker A:His best case scenario is he may possibly be able to walk and say three to five words one day.
Speaker A:But God can help him.
Speaker A:He's not afraid of impossible odds.
Speaker A:And if Easton is healed one day, there will be no question as to where it comes from.
Speaker A:It will not be because of therapy.
Speaker A:It will not be because of medication or diet.
Speaker A:It will be because of God's undeniable healing power.
Speaker A:So in the meantime, we choose to raise a hallelujah and trust in God, ladies and gentlemen, that is faith.
Speaker A:Now the idea that it's going to be simple and everything's going to be great and they're trying to make pie in the sky that doesn't exist at all.
Speaker A:If you read this.
Speaker A:And I think Wonder Julia can attest to it, she tells you this is ugly.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:This is not a good situation.
Speaker A:It's going to change our lives.
Speaker A:He's never going to be able to be unattended.
Speaker A:It doesn't look good.
Speaker A:And you know, as a parent, you're heartbroken.
Speaker A:They have two other children.
Speaker A:They don't want to have any loss in their communication with their kids.
Speaker A:But they're going to have to give extra attention.
Speaker A:They were going to have a fourth child.
Speaker A:They're not sure they're going to do that now.
Speaker A:So you got a lot of things in play.
Speaker A:But what you can't deny is that I won't take credit, but I'll stand in there as a grandparent and as a parent and say what a fantastic position of faith that my daughter has grown into.
Speaker A:She has made the determination that she will do the best that she can as a human being to give this child the best life she can.
Speaker A:And she will not quit hoping.

Speaker A:Larry was 80 years old and can hit a great round of golf, but his eyesight was failing and he couldn't see where the ball landed.
Speaker A:He asked Bill to go with him.
Speaker A:Bill could no longer hit the ball, but his eyes were perfect.
Speaker A:So Larry hit the ball and turned to Bill and said, do you see where the ball landed, Bill?
Speaker A:He said, oh, yes, I see.
Speaker A:And Larry said, well, where is it?
Speaker A:And Bill said, I forgot.
Speaker A:That's pretty funny.
Speaker A:All right, here we are.
Speaker A:All right, so here's the dealios for those that do not know.

Speaker A:7 is the place that you would get that reference point going back to this text.
Speaker A:Now, this is really deep.
Speaker A:You really do need to think about this really, really deep stuff that we are coming into here.
Speaker A:So we just talked about David.
Speaker A:David came back from running away from Saul.
Speaker A:He's living at Ziklag.
Speaker A:He was attacking Philistine posts.
Speaker A:He comes back, in theory, he was going to attack Israel.
Speaker A:There's some arguments about that.
Speaker A:It's like nobody cares.
Speaker A:He comes back to Ziklag and he finds out that his wife and his children and all the wives and all the children all have been kidnapped and the entire city has been burned and destroyed.
Speaker A:So we started off understanding that that brought about a great sense of disappointment for David, obviously.
Speaker A:But after that, it says, so David and his men wept aloud until they had no more strength left to weep from.
Speaker A:Disappointment often comes this element called discouragement.
Speaker A:Discouragement is the emotional equivalent of disappointment.
Speaker A:You get discouraged.
Speaker A:So this is what it says.
Speaker A:And listen to this.
Speaker A:This is just going to.
Speaker A:I believe this will really help some people.
Speaker A:So it says, David's two wives have been captured.
Speaker A:Enoam and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel.
Speaker A:Chapter 36, verse 8.
Speaker A:David was greatly distressed because the men talked about stoning him.
Speaker A:Each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters.
Speaker A:Let me tell you what happens after you face disappointment and your brain processes that disappointment.
Speaker A:You get into the discouragement element, and that's the emotional element, okay?
Speaker A:But the next thing that happens if you stay there, listen to what I'm going to say to you is you become distant.
Speaker A:These men became distant from David.
Speaker A:And what happens for a lot of Christians is they go through it and they go through it tough and they have this huge disappointment.
Speaker A:And after that disappointment, they feel this sense of discouragement because it's emotionally attacking them on the insides and they feel violated.
Speaker A:And that creates a sense of separation from.
Speaker A:From our leader.
Speaker A:And for Christians, this is the exact same thing that happened to Job.
Speaker A:When he felt like his disappointment, it became discouragement.
Speaker A:And he got distanced from the Lord and was like, I want to have an argument with God right now in a court.
Speaker A:And there's this sense of separating and being hurt.
Speaker A:And we have this response that we are upset and don't lie about this.
Speaker A:It drives me nuts when Christians just remember Ananias and Sapphira.
Speaker A:When something happens, you just be honest.
Speaker A:Don't be weird about it.
Speaker A:If your entire life blew up and you go to church and you're looking around smiling, going, I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine.
Speaker A:You're just playing.
Speaker A:You're doing the ultimate hypocrisy in a hypocrite.
Speaker A:Somebody who puts on a fake mask, an acting mask.
Speaker A:Sometimes when you're hurt, you gotta say it.
Speaker A:Even David, when he had this situation, the Bible says in two verses, it says he was mad at God, but then he was also afraid of God.
Speaker A:Did you know that?
Speaker A:It's not even abnormal.
Speaker A:And so these guys were mad at David.
Speaker A:They talked about stoning David.
Speaker A:We're not talking about stoning God.
Speaker A:But they're just mad because the Bible says they were bitter in their spirit because of the loss.
Speaker A:That's the ticket right there.
Speaker A:When we have a loss, we're disappointed.
Speaker A:And then we get that discouragement thing going.
Speaker A:If that bitterness, if that continues down that vein, that bitterness pops up and we're grieved.
Speaker A:And oftentimes in that grief, we're alone.
Speaker A:And they were mad at David.
Speaker A:It's not like it was David's fault per se, but he's the leader, right?
Speaker A:And they were each bitter because of his sons and his daughters being gone.
Speaker A:But there is a direct response to this.
Speaker A:And I'm not going to tell you what it is yet, because you're going to have to listen to hear it.
Speaker A:And it is life changing, powerful.
Speaker A:So before we go there, we'll answer this question.
Speaker A:Who was older, Moses or Aaron?
Speaker A:And the answer is Aaron.
Speaker A:Aaron was older.

Speaker A:In other words, the rights that we have and the preamble is that we get to pursue happiness, not that it's provided for us by the government.

Speaker A:This is a life changer.
Speaker A:I know you don't think so, but I'm telling you, this will have an impact on people at serious levels.
Speaker A:So what we found out as we're going through this material, you find out that David comes back to Ziklag, right?
Speaker A:And some people are like, well, he shouldn't have gone in the first place.
Speaker A:Blah, blah, blah.
Speaker A:Nobody cares.
Speaker A:Here's what we're trying to get to in verses 1 through 3, 1 Samuel 30, David finds disappointment because he comes back to Ziklag.
Speaker A:The men and the women or the children and the women have been kidnapped and the city's been destroyed and lit on fire.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Very disappointing.
Speaker A:Verse 4 communicates that the men and David wept until they had wept aloud, until they had no more strength to weep.
Speaker A:This is the emotional part of the disappointment.
Speaker A:It's just radically bad.
Speaker A:That's the answer.
Speaker A:Radically bad.
Speaker A:And he's feeling it.
Speaker A:And so are the men.
Speaker A:From that.
Speaker A:You get into this part where it says David was greatly distressed because the men were talking about stoning him.
Speaker A:Each one was bitter in spirit because of his son or his daughter.
Speaker A:They were so mad.
Speaker A:They were so hurt.
Speaker A:They were so wounded.
Speaker A:And sometimes when we get wounded in this process, we get mad.
Speaker A:I know you don't ever get mad.
Speaker A:Congratulations.
Speaker A:But even Job got upset with the Lord, and he was so good.
Speaker A:David got upset with the Lord.
Speaker A:Abraham got upset with the Lord.
Speaker A:Jacob got upset with the Lord.
Speaker A:You want me to keep going?
Speaker A:I can keep going.
Speaker A:And so there's this bit of separation, but the Last part of 1 Samuel 36 is the key.
Speaker A:And this is the key for you and me.
Speaker A:And I'm telling you, this will change your life if you let it.
Speaker A:If you let the word of God penetrate.
Speaker A:After, it says, david was greatly distressed because the men were talking about stoning.
Speaker A:Each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters.
Speaker A:The last part of the verse says this.
Speaker A:But David found strength in the Lord his God.
Speaker A:And this is the key when we face disappointment and it hurts.
Speaker A:And you go from disappointment to discouragement because there's an emotional component to it.
Speaker A:And you feel a little bit distant because you're upset and a little bit of bitter and a little bit of grieve.
Speaker A:You come to this moment, and the moment is the decision moment, and the decision moment is this.
Speaker A:Where are you going to find your strength?
Speaker A:That's the decision.
Speaker A:Yep.
Speaker A:It's disappointing.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:It hurt.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:You even feel alone, separated.
Speaker A:A little bit of bitter.
Speaker A:But.
Speaker A:But that brings you to the crucial moment of this.
Speaker A:Where are you going to find your strength?
Speaker A:David found strength in the Lord his God.
Speaker A:I just want to point this out to you, so I don't want you to get weird on me.
Speaker A:You know, I'm Baptistal, for those who don't know.
Speaker A:Born and raised Jewish, became a Christian Baptist, Pentecostal Charismatic Ordination.
Speaker A:BA degree in ministry and Leadership, Theological Studies master, and a doctorate in Strategic Christian Ministry from Liberty University.
Speaker A:So I got a pep, a Pentecostal master's and a Baptist doctorate.
Speaker A:All that to say this.
Speaker A:You got to find your strength in the Lord.
Speaker A:All the things around you, all the things you've done, all the things you come up with, doesn't matter.
Speaker A:It all comes down to you finding strength in the Lord.
Speaker A:Now, notice it does not say that God dropped a flaming rock in front of David and then said, find your strength in me.
Speaker A:Find your strength in me.
Speaker A:That's not what happened.
Speaker A:David turned in himself, turned to the Lord and said, you gotta be my strength.
Speaker A:I got nowhere else to go.
Speaker A:Isn't it amazing how closely connected this is to the Psalms teaching we did earlier in the show?
Speaker A:It is amazing, isn't it?
Speaker A:And David found that strength.
Speaker A:And we have to make the decision at the crucial moment.
Speaker A:Where will we find our strength?
Speaker A:Isn't that powerful?
Speaker A:Like, wow.
Speaker A:Yeah, right.
Speaker A:Disappointed, kind of hurt by the whole thing.
Speaker A:Feeling a little distant, feeling a little alone.
Speaker A:I'm not going to stay there.
Speaker A:I'm going to find my strength in the Lord.
Speaker A:And for all those people that say, well, never.
Speaker A:So strengthen yourself.
Speaker A:I've heard that from preachers.
Speaker A:Like, really?
Speaker A:So when it says, david found strength in the Lord is God.
Speaker A:It doesn't say that right there.
Speaker A:Here's the thing.
Speaker A:Sometimes that's just what you got to do.
Speaker A:And then I don't want you to miss this because this all goes together.
Speaker A:Then what's the next thing David does?
Speaker A:Verse 7.
Speaker A:David said to Abraham, the priest, bring me the Ephod.
Speaker A:He brought him the Ephod.
Speaker A:David inquired to the Lord, shall I pursue this raiding party?
Speaker A:Will I overtake them?
Speaker A:Pursue them?
Speaker A:God answered, you will certainly overtake them and succeed.
Speaker A:Right after David made the decision to absolutely find his strength in the Lord, you know what he did?
Speaker A:He completely went dependent on God for his guidance.
Speaker A:He went from decision to dependence.
Speaker A:Hey, I'm here.
Speaker A:I'm with you.
Speaker A:I need your help.
Speaker A:Now.
Speaker A:I'm standing firm in you.
Speaker A:I'm not letting my faith be rocked.
Speaker A:I'm not going to be shaken.
Speaker A:I'm not going to be altered.
Speaker A:I'm standing firm.
Speaker A:I need your help.
Speaker A:If any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without finding fault.
Speaker A:Here I am, and I'm asking, get it?
Speaker A:Disappointment, discouragement, distance.
Speaker A:But then decision and dependence going hand in hand.
Speaker A:Wow.
Speaker A:I mean, wow.
Speaker A:All right, there's four Beatitudes in the book of Luke.
Speaker A:How many in the book of Matthew?
Speaker A:Two, four, six, eight.
Speaker A:Who do we appreciate?
Speaker A:The answer is eight.
Speaker A:Eight Beatitudes.

Speaker A:Only in God is there satisfaction.
Speaker A:He says, this too, I see, is from the hand of God.
Speaker A:Happiness is from the hand of God.
Speaker A:Verse 13, Ecclesiastes 3.
Speaker A:That each of them may eat, drink, and find satisfaction in their toil.
Speaker A:This is the gift of God.
Speaker A:Happiness is a gift.
Speaker A:Satisfaction is a gift.
Speaker A:The graces for appreciating life at its fullness is a gift from God.
Speaker A:And apart from from God, it cannot be attained.
Speaker A:Yasser, we're really going to the mat here, huh?
Speaker A:So then you might say, okay, David, then what's the conclusion?
Speaker A:What do you do then to get that whole process going?
Speaker A:If only God can grant lasting happiness, period.
Speaker A:What do we got to do.
Speaker A:Ecclesiastes, chapter 12, verse 13.
Speaker A:Now, all has been heard, and here is the conclusion of the matter.
Speaker A:The.
Speaker A:You love that.
Speaker A:I mean, the answer's right here in the same book.
Speaker A:And here is the answer.
Speaker A:Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.
Speaker A:If you want God to grant you the gift of happiness, you fear him and obey his commandments.
Speaker A:People are like, oh, no, there's got to be something else.
Speaker A:Isn't there medication involved?
Speaker A:Isn't there grandchildren involved?
Speaker A:Isn't there this involved?
Speaker A:Isn't there relationships involved?
Speaker A:Isn't there, you know, money involved and power and cars and houses and big TVs?
Speaker A:No.
Speaker A:Wasn't there food and wine and what about all the medications?
Speaker A:No.
Speaker A:Well, what about becoming smart and brilliant, knowing and having degrees?
Speaker A:No.
Speaker A:You tell me.
Speaker A:Partying doesn't do anything.
Speaker A:Correct.
Speaker A:I mean, building a monument to myself does nothing.
Speaker A:Correct.
Speaker A:Happiness comes as a gift from God only.
Speaker A:And so the conclusion of the matter is simple.
Speaker A:Fear God and keep his commandments.
Speaker A:This is the duty of mankind.
Speaker A:This is the requirement.
Speaker A:Now, to fear God is to be in reverence of God, honor, respect, awe and appreciation every day.
Speaker A:Are you in honor, respect, awe and appreciation of God, yes or no?
Speaker A:And do we obey what he tells us to do?
Speaker A:You want to be a successful Christian?
Speaker A:Do what God says.
Speaker A:I'll be a successful Christian.
Speaker A:That means X amount of money in the bank.
Speaker A:It doesn't.
Speaker A:Jesus didn't.
Speaker A:Jesus didn't die and resurrect a billionaire.
Speaker A:I mean, that's just dumb.

Speaker A:Sometimes when they grow scratch out in front of a store, I have to take the other exit because if I see the box, I will fall and purchase.

Speaker A:As we close out, a quick reminder.

Speaker A:Now, winding this down, we just went through this whole thing in 1 Samuel 30, these different stages that David went through in this recovery.
Speaker A:First he came across disappointment.
Speaker A:Then he had discouragement, which is the emotional component to disappointment.
Speaker A:Now he had some distance from his men, and he was probably feeling pretty alone because the Bible says that he was greatly distressed because his men talked about stoning him.
Speaker A:And that was kind of a drag, right?
Speaker A:And sometimes we pull back from the Lord a little.
Speaker A:That's what Job did until he got to connect with God again.
Speaker A:But the big thing is he made the decision at the critical moment to find his strength in the Lord.
Speaker A:Every one of us, you come to a circumstance.
Speaker A:I don't care if it's relationships, I don't care if it's finances.
Speaker A:I don't care if it's ministry.
Speaker A:I don't care if it's your job.
Speaker A:It doesn't matter what it is.
Speaker A:If you've had a disappointment, you get discouraged and you're kind of feeling alone.
Speaker A:It comes down to time to make the decision to find your strength in the Lord.
Speaker A:And once you make that right decision to find your strength in the Lord, the first thing you do is come to the Lord for guidance.
Speaker A:And you become dependent, and you become dependent on the Lord.
Speaker A:Now, I do want to say this because it's really important part of the text.
Speaker A:I don't want to get too deep into the weeds, but the first thing that happened to David, and this is one of those sad things that people don't like, really talk about, but the first thing that happened to David is in verse nine.
Speaker A:David and 600 men went with him to Bezor, the Bezor Valley, where some men stayed behind.
Speaker A:200 of them were too exhausted to cross the valley, but David and the other 400 men continued the pursuit.
Speaker A:The first thing that happened after David made a decision to pursue and go forward is he had a distraction.
Speaker A:Obstacles are guaranteed in our pursuit.
Speaker A:Satan's defeated, but he's not idle, right.
Speaker A:He's not on Pluto because he's not allowed to visit Pluto.
Speaker A:He's stuck here.
Speaker A:But the bottom line is Satan's going to try and throw you off.
Speaker A:So once you make that decision and once you create that dependence upon the Lord, I can guarantee you, I can bet you a trillion, gazillion, bazillion zillion dollars, distractions will be thrown at you.
Speaker A:But verse 18, 20, sum it up.
Speaker A:Verse 18 in 1st Samuel 3 said, David recovered everything from the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives.
Speaker A:Nothing was missing, young or old, boy or girl.
Speaker A:Plunder or anything else they had taken.
Speaker A:David brought back everything.
Speaker A:He took all the flocks and herds and his men, drove them ahead of the other livestock, saying, this is David's plunder.
Speaker A:Once you make the decision and once you have the dependence, after you get through the distraction, what you can count on is deliverance.
Speaker A:Not only are we going to recover, there will be increase.
Speaker A:And that is our hope that there will be even a greater increase.
Speaker A:So disappointment and discouragement work hand in hand.
Speaker A:The result is a little bit of distancing.
Speaker A:We make the decision, and in that decision making find our strength in the Lord and we get that dependence on the Lord.
Speaker A:After we've done that, you can be assured there'll be distractions, but you can also be assured there will be deliverance because God is faithful, that's why.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Wasn't that cool?
