10-08-2026 PART 3: The Author Comes First, Not the Audience

Section 1

Prayer becomes something entirely different when we approach God as servants rather than supervisors. Drawing from Matthew 6:10, Dr. Dave emphasizes that genuine prayer is surrender, not an attempt to give God instructions, deadlines, or carefully constructed plans. Asking for His will to be done means releasing our demands about how everything should unfold. We bring our requests, do our best, and trust Jesus with the results. That same principle of surrender prepares us for the deeper teachings that follow. God does not need us to manage His decisions; He invites us to trust His wisdom. When we loosen our grip on controlling outcomes, we make room for the peace that comes from knowing our heavenly Father understands what we need far better than we do.

Section 2

Galatians 1:15–16 reveals that God set the apostle Paul apart from his mother's womb and called him through grace. Dr. Dave connects this remarkable statement to God's involvement in human life before birth, emphasizing that our existence and purpose are never accidental. He references Jeremiah and the opening chapter of John to reinforce his conviction that God is intimately involved in His creation. This becomes especially significant following the earlier interview concerning the protection of unborn children. Yet another powerful truth emerges from Paul's testimony: God's calling operates through grace rather than personal achievement. The Lord revealed Jesus to Paul for a specific purpose—to proclaim Christ among the Gentiles. Likewise, believers are not introduced to Jesus merely to keep that relationship private. God's grace reaches us personally, but His purposes extend through us to others.

Section 3

A challenging question emerges from Galatians 1:10: are we seeking the approval of people or the approval of God? Dr. Dave recalls a season of fasting when the Lord impressed upon him that ministry is for the Author, not the audience. Although ministry serves people, its ultimate responsibility is to the One who gives the message. Human approval cannot become the controlling motivation of Christian living. Relationships, responsibilities, finances, and earthly accomplishments all have their place, but they are temporary. What is accomplished for God's kingdom carries eternal significance. Jesus must therefore occupy first place, not merely receive whatever attention remains after everything else has been satisfied. Following Christ means voluntarily becoming His servant and allowing His priorities to govern our decisions. The Christian life is not about impressing the audience around us; it is about faithfully serving the Author who called us, saved us, and deserves first place in everything.

David Spoon was born and raised in a Jewish home in Detroit, Michigan. He attended a private Hebrew school called Hillel Hebrew Academy. David was bar mitzvah-ed at the age of thirteen. Not long after, he was involved in drug abuse and trafficking. After hearing the Gospel for the first time at age seventeen, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. A few months later, David had a dramatic experience with God. Immediately set free from years of excessive drug use, he committed himself to ministry and to furthering the Kingdom of God.

He also graduated with honors from Regent University with a master’s degree in Theological Studies and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Strategic Christian Ministry at Liberty University.

He is one of a few individuals holding ministerial ordinations from three separate denominations: Heritage Free Baptist Organization, 1981; Independent Pentecostal Ministers Association, 1985; and Vineyard Valley Association, 1988. He was also the Chaplain for the Flagstaff Police Department. In addition, David was the senior pastor of Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Flagstaff.

In addition, David started and co-hosted two different live Christian call-in radio talk shows. He was also the Director of Local Ministry for Salem Media Group in San Diego, California.

David is married to his best friend, Noelle. He has three children and seven grandchildren, plus their two dogs named Levi and Bert. On March 18th, 2019, he started “The David Spoon Experience” in Texas and is growing with his audience of awesome believers and non-believers alike.
