09 -10-2026 PART 3: When Love Becomes More Important Than Liberty

Section 1

Loneliness can feel completely real even when its message is completely wrong. Dr. Dave’s devotional, “When You Feel Alone,” points to Jesus declaring that although others would leave Him, He was not alone because the Father remained with Him. Believers may experience people walking away, family relationships disappearing, circumstances becoming isolating, or loneliness even while surrounded by others. Those emotions should never be denied, but neither should they be allowed to determine truth. Feelings can mislead us; God’s promises cannot. He has promised never to leave or forsake His children. Whether walking through silence, noise, valleys, or mountaintops, believers can anchor themselves in the certainty that Emmanuel remains God with us.

Section 2

Christian freedom was never intended to become an excuse for ignoring the spiritual condition of another person. Returning to 1 Corinthians 8, Dr. Dave emphasizes that some believers still carried weaknesses associated with their former involvement with idols. A mature Christian might possess freedom concerning something that another believer cannot safely handle, but the kingdom response is not simply insisting upon personal rights. Jesus demonstrated an entirely different approach by humbling Himself, placing the Father’s purpose above His own interests, and showing compassion toward people who were struggling. Christians are therefore called to recognize the condition of those around them. Freedom remains valuable, but love sometimes means voluntarily limiting that freedom so another believer can remain spiritually strong.

Section 3

Paul raises the seriousness considerably when he explains that wounding another believer’s weak conscience is actually sinning against Christ. Dr. Dave stresses that personal liberty must never become a stumbling block that encourages a brother or sister to fall. Paul was willing to surrender something completely legitimate rather than use his freedom in a way that damaged another person. That principle reaches beyond food sacrificed to idols and into everyday words, choices, attitudes, and actions. Christians have received extraordinary freedom, grace, forgiveness, and kindness from God, but those gifts should make them more considerate of others rather than more self-centered. The universe does not revolve around our freedom; it revolves around Jesus.
