Saying “Amen” is far more than a church tradition; it is an affirmation that something is true, trustworthy, and worthy of agreement. Dr. Dave points to Deuteronomy 27, where the people repeatedly responded “Amen” as God’s standards were proclaimed concerning idolatry, honoring parents, justice, sexual morality, violence, greed, and obedience to His Word. The pattern demonstrates that God’s people were expected to recognize His truth and deliberately agree with it. That affirmation does not necessarily have to be spoken aloud in a church service. Believers can respond personally before the Lord, recognizing His Word as true and allowing their hearts to say, “Yes, Lord, so be it.”

What believers continually affirm deserves careful attention because not everything competing for agreement carries the same spiritual value. Dr. Dave warns that some Christians consume far more news, television, and current events than Scripture, creating an unhealthy spiritual diet that can shape their thinking and emotions. God’s voice and God’s Word should receive far greater attention and affirmation. The example of Jehoshaphat and Ahab illustrates the danger of agreeing too quickly. Jehoshaphat initially supported Ahab’s proposal before genuinely determining what the Lord wanted. His mistake demonstrates why agreement should never come merely because an idea sounds reasonable or another person presents it confidently.

Spiritual maturity sometimes requires withholding an immediate yes until God provides wisdom and direction. Dr. Dave emphasizes the importance of stronger boundaries and refusing to align automatically with people, plans, or opportunities simply because they appear appealing. Jehoshaphat should have sought the Lord before agreeing with Ahab rather than committing himself first and asking questions afterward. Christians likewise need to determine whether something deserves their affirmation before giving it. There are situations where the wisest response is simply, “I’ll let you know,” while seeking God first. Our strongest agreement belongs with God’s truth, God’s wisdom, and those things that genuinely honor Him—and to that we can confidently say, Amen.
