Section 1

Spiritual growth includes recognizing that believers still have much to learn while trusting God to continue developing them along the way. Dr. Dave describes how his son gradually came to understand that everything he receives is a gift from God and that generosity should naturally flow from that realization. Paul warns against believing we already know everything, because knowledge without humility can easily become pride. More importantly, the person who genuinely loves God is known by Him. God understands exactly where His children are spiritually, sees their desire to grow, and knows when they sincerely want to move closer to Him.

Section 2

Turning specifically to food sacrificed to idols, Paul reminds believers that an idol possesses no genuine divine authority because there is only one God. Dr. Dave explains that idols can extend far beyond physical objects to include money, fame, personal gratification, or anything else elevated into a position belonging to God. Christians may understand clearly that these things are not gods, but Paul’s concern involves how that knowledge is communicated to people who have not reached the same understanding. Knowing the truth does not provide permission to shove it into someone else’s face. Biblical knowledge should always operate alongside wisdom, humility, patience, and love.

Section 3

Paul ultimately directs attention toward the magnificent truth that everything comes from God the Father and through the Lord Jesus Christ. Dr. Dave emphasizes that the passage places Jesus alongside the Father in describing the divine source through whom all things exist, reinforcing Christ’s deity and providing another glimpse of the Trinity. Nothing believers possess originates independently from themselves—not their abilities, accomplishments, resources, or even their next breath. Everything good ultimately reflects God’s extraordinary generosity. Rather than viewing Him as stingy, Christians should remember how continually He gives, even to those who reject Him, and approach Him with gratitude for His remarkable and enduring grace.
