08-19-2026 PART 2: Faith in the Middle of the Storm

Section 1

Setting out across the water at Jesus’ direction, the disciples soon encountered a furious storm that threatened to overwhelm their boat. Dr. Dave emphasizes an important truth: they were exactly where Jesus told them to be, yet they still encountered serious trouble. Being in the will of God does not guarantee smooth circumstances or freedom from difficulty. Jesus Himself faced suffering while perfectly fulfilling the Father’s will. Storms, opposition, and uncomfortable circumstances therefore do not automatically indicate that believers have taken a wrong turn or somehow moved outside God’s purposes.

Section 2

These disciples were not inexperienced travelers frightened by a little wind and rain. Several were professional fishermen who understood dangerous conditions, making their fear evidence that this storm was genuinely severe. Meanwhile, Jesus remained asleep in the back of the boat as waves crashed around them. Dr. Dave points out that Christians sometimes imagine strong believers should remain completely unaffected during frightening circumstances, yet the disciples demonstrate otherwise. Fear and distress during a serious trial do not make someone an unusual Christian; they reveal the very human reactions experienced even by those who walked personally with Jesus.

Section 3

Unable to understand how Jesus could remain asleep while their situation appeared increasingly desperate, the disciples awakened Him with the painful question, “Don’t You care?” Dr. Dave recognizes that believers often ask essentially the same question when God appears silent during overwhelming circumstances. When prayers seem unanswered and the storm continues, it can feel as though the Lord is sleeping while everything falls apart. Yet Jesus was still present in the boat, and the disciples were about to discover that His apparent silence never meant absence or indifference. Their frightening experience would become a lesson capable of transforming how they understood both Jesus and faith.
