The David Spoon Experience 4-5-24 part 1
A) James Chapter 4, Verse 13 serves as a reminder for us to understand our place as human beings. The scriptures state, “God is in heaven and you are on earth, therefore let your words be few.”
B) Verse 13 begins by addressing those who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make a profit.” These sound like solid business plans and are part of the American dream - envision it, believe it, achieve it.
C)However, the scripture also reminds us that we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. It compares our life to a mist. Just as I occasionally use a nasal spray that quickly disappears after being sprayed, our lives are fleeting in the eyes of the Lord without His sustaining help.
D) The key takeaway is that our time on Earth is brief, and then we vanish. There are three crucial insights from this:
- We must understand that our life on this planet is temporary. We are merely visitors on Earth on our journey towards the Son of God.
- A dose of humility is wise, given that we have no idea what will happen in the next 30 seconds. We should live with respect and reverence before the Lord.
- While it’s admirable to want to leave a legacy, the most meaningful legacy we can leave is one that points people to Jesus. Anything else is simply pride.
