The David Spoon Experience 4-18-23 Part 2
1) As we continue in chapter one of the Galatians, we get down to what many consider to be one of the most forceful passages in the New Testament. Paul says, in verse 8, let God’s curse fall on anyone, including himself, who preaches any other message than the one they were told about. People try to demonstrate that speaking evil of leaders generates much trouble with God. But the truth of the matter, according to The Scriptures, is that leaders who preach another gospel are to be cursed/ In fact, anybody who preaches another gospel, whether it’s human, angelic, or even a former faithful follower of Christ, is eternally cursed.
2) Just in case most people missed Paul’s saying, he reiterates it all again in verse 9. He makes it very clear that somebody preaching a false gospel is to be cursed. Ironically, he uses the term “Angel” as only one significant variant of the Christian faith claims to have spun off from an angel. Think about it; it’s not too difficult to understand. When the angel has a name that’s close to a moron, that’s bad.
3) Paul finishes his thought by ensuring everybody understands that he is not trying to be a people pleaser. It is hard not to be a people pleaser because people are all around us, and we want to receive their acceptance. It hurts me personally when people reject me. But I have to turn my face towards Jesus and recognize that not only did He endure that, but He’s called you and me to be to endure the same.
