01-15-2025 part 1: Finding Your Way Back to God: Truths for the Troubled Christian

Dr. David Spoon addresses the challenges of backsliding in the Christian faith, emphasizing that feeling distant from God is a common experience. He reassures listeners that even during these valleys, God remains aware and is always extending a hand for reconciliation. David encourages the audience to recognize that the desire to return to God is a sign of their faith, highlighting that true repentance is not just about feeling remorse but actively turning back to God. He shares personal insights and scriptural references to reinforce the message that God’s love and support are unwavering, regardless of our struggles. Throughout the discussion, listeners are reminded that they can boldly approach God’s throne of grace, seeking help and strength to overcome their difficulties.

The dialogue between Dr. David Spoon and his listeners in this episode sheds light on the often-unspoken struggles of faith, particularly the feeling of backsliding. When Sergio calls in, he expresses his feelings of guilt and distance from God, prompting a deep dive into the nature of repentance and the Christian experience. Spoon addresses the complex emotions that accompany the journey of faith, emphasizing that feelings of guilt and discouragement are common and can serve as indicators of a believer's commitment to their spiritual path. He reassures listeners that God’s love is constant and that their struggles do not define their worth or place in His kingdom.

Spoon's exploration of repentance serves as a key theme throughout the discussion. He articulates that true repentance is not solely about feeling sorry for one's mistakes but involves a genuine turn towards God, akin to the Prodigal Son's return home. He highlights the importance of biblical truths that reinforce God's unwavering acceptance and love. By referencing scriptures like Hebrews 4:16, Spoon encourages listeners to approach God boldly, reminding them that His grace is available in their moments of need. He skillfully combines theological insights with practical applications, making the message both profound and accessible for daily living.

Moreover, the episode resonates with Spoon's charismatic and humorous style, which makes complex theological concepts engaging. His personal anecdotes and reflections create a relatable atmosphere, inviting listeners to reflect on their own journeys. By addressing the reality of backsliding and encouraging listeners to seek God actively, Spoon fosters a narrative of hope and renewal. This episode stands as a testament to the belief that, regardless of one's current state, the path back to a fulfilling relationship with God is always open.

Takeaways:

  • The importance of acknowledging our struggles and returning to God during difficult times.
  • True repentance involves changing our mindset and turning back towards the Lord.
  • God is aware of our struggles and is always ready to welcome us back.
  • Emotional feelings of guilt are natural, but they shouldn't dictate our relationship with God.
  • God's grace is sufficient, and He desires a relationship with us despite our flaws.
  • The analogy of the prodigal son illustrates God's unconditional love and forgiveness.

Right.

David Spoon:

Life lessons for our faith that we could actually use.

David Spoon:

Probably won't if we sit on our blessed assurance.

Don't do that humor that will force you to think, why does this guy have a radio show?

David Spoon:

I'm starting to like this response a little bit more.

David Spoon:

What am I?

David Spoon:

Chop liver?

David Spoon:

Here is the key to the show.

David Spoon:

We don't know what we're doing.

David Spoon:

We have no idea what's gonna happen and we don't care.

David Spoon:

But for the next few minutes, I wanna talk truth with you.

David Spoon:

So here we go.

David Spoon:

We're asking questions about living life as a Christian.

David Spoon:

And sometimes on these questions we ask probing questions to make all of us consider and think.

David Spoon:

Ouch.

David Spoon:

And here is your question, and it should not be too difficult, but you might have to think about it.

David Spoon:

What Old Testament book do you know the best?

David Spoon:

What?

David Spoon:

to Revelation:

David Spoon:

785,000 words in the King James 3, 39 in the Old Testament, 27 in the New Testament.

David Spoon:

Out of those 39 books in the Old Testament, what Old Testament book do you know best?

David Spoon:

That is the opening question.

David Spoon:

If you have a response or if you have an opinion, a comment, a thought or a question, and I can answer it, we'll find out.

David Spoon:

Don't let it die of loneliness.

David Spoon:

Just reach out and give us a call.

David Spoon:

Call Holla.

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

There you go.

David Spoon:

Talking to Jim and Jacob is like feeling confident that you have done your best.

David Spoon:

Thank you, David.

David Spoon:

Happy Wednesday.

David Spoon:

Happy Wednesday to you, my friend.

David Spoon:

Anything happening here in the station before I arrive?

David Spoon:

It.

David Spoon:

Anything exciting?

David Spoon:

Anything transforming or just business as usual?

David Spoon:

Business as usual today.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Well, we do have an update on the printer that I brought in, so people don't know, but I've been trying to print off of my computer in this studio for about four and a half years and it keeps failing and failing.

David Spoon:

Well, finally the other week I brought my own printer down and just.

David Spoon:

You just wouldn't believe it.

David Spoon:

This is Wednesday.

David Spoon:

I brought it down yesterday.

David Spoon:

I'm still trying to get it to work.

David Spoon:

See, you've had printer problems for a little bit now.

David Spoon:

So really this is business usual today with the printer problem.

David Spoon:

This is that magneto thing that Noel was talking about.

David Spoon:

If you touch it and it has electricity in it, it don't work.

David Spoon:

That's my life.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Anyway, you don't have to pray for me about that, but that's pretty funny.

David Spoon:

All right, bottom line is you can reach out and call us.

David Spoon:

We do want to know.

David Spoon:

What Old Testament book do you know best?

David Spoon:

I mean, which one is, you know what, man, I read the Psalms every day.

David Spoon:

I know proverbs, you know, there's one chapter books in there like Obedah.

David Spoon:

Do you know that one best?

David Spoon:

Genesis.

David Spoon:

Do you know Joshua best?

David Spoon:

Which Old Testament book do you know best?

David Spoon:

Let us know.

David Spoon:

Not only can you call us, you can text and we think that's lots of fun.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

8483.

David Spoon:

That number is the ministry line.

David Spoon:

But you can't use calling on that number basically during the show and probably for about the first hour after the show, it's just kind of tough because there's so much going on.

David Spoon:

But afterwards, later on, you can always call and just leave a message.

David Spoon:

I have a very strong anti spam block thing.

David Spoon:

Just get through it.

David Spoon:

It's actually kind of funny.

David Spoon:

It's a guy screaming, ouch, ouch, ouch.

David Spoon:

Anyway, you can always leave a message.

David Spoon:

It's not a problem.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Or you can send an email.

David Spoon:

Davidemustincrease.org that's David, my name at hemustincrease.

David Spoon:

A with a circle.

David Spoon:

He must increase.

David Spoon:

From John 3:30.org nonprofit corporation davidemustincrease.org, so you can call us, you can text us, you can email us.

David Spoon:

We'll tell you why.

David Spoon:

But right now we do have somebody on the line.

David Spoon:

So let's find out what is happening.

David Spoon:

Go ahead and send them on through.

David Spoon:

Knock, knock.

David Spoon:

This is David.

David Spoon:

Who am I talking to?

Speaker A:

David, Good afternoon, Sergio.

David Spoon:

Hello, Sergio, my brother.

David Spoon:

How are you?

Speaker A:

Good, how are you?

David Spoon:

I'm doing pretty good.

David Spoon:

We're gonna talk about this in a little bit.

David Spoon:

We got some family coming in from out of town this weekend.

David Spoon:

So it will be super great for my wife and a little more challenging for Davey.

David Spoon:

Wavy.

David Spoon:

But that's okay.

David Spoon:

I will prevail.

David Spoon:

All right, my friend.

David Spoon:

Tough.

David Spoon:

Tuh, tough.

Speaker A:

That was on top of the Christmas.

David Spoon:

Yeah, you can't believe it, right?

David Spoon:

We have not had a break.

David Spoon:

So we had that three.

David Spoon:

We had the two days off at Christmas, two days in Christmas.

David Spoon:

Then we had all the family in.

David Spoon:

Then we had the one day off for New Year's.

David Spoon:

The family was still here.

David Spoon:

Last week we had the snow this week we have other family coming in.

David Spoon:

I told Noel I'm taking a trip to Aruba.

David Spoon:

Send me a postcard.

David Spoon:

Sometimes you just gotta make that call.

David Spoon:

Anyway, my brother, how are you?

David Spoon:

How are you doing?

David Spoon:

How are things going?

David Spoon:

I know you're probably in.

David Spoon:

What are you in, numbers or Deuteronomy at this point.

Speaker A:

Good call, David.

Speaker A:

I'm still in Deuteronomy.

David Spoon:

Okay, great, great, great, great, great, great, great book.

David Spoon:

Anyway, so lots there.

David Spoon:

Talk to me, brother.

David Spoon:

How can I help you?

David Spoon:

How can I bless you today?

Speaker A:

Well, I, you know, I don't.

Speaker A:

I, you know, I just, you know, I think I told you this before, David.

Speaker A:

If I, If I don't call in, I'm still listening.

Speaker A:

Somehow, some way, I still.

Speaker A:

You guys.

Speaker A:

But I got to listen to you these last couple of days.

Speaker A:

And not everyone's perfect.

Speaker A:

And I wanted to get your thought process or your opinion on what happens and what does David Spoon do to combat, I guess, going through the valley sometimes.

Speaker A:

What do you read?

Speaker A:

What scriptures do you hang on to?

Speaker A:

Especially when you backtrack?

Speaker A:

Is that the correct term, when you backtrack?

David Spoon:

It's called backsliding.

David Spoon:

That's what people would typically call it, backsliding.

David Spoon:

And there's backslide, David.

Speaker A:

I mean, what, what, what do you hold on to?

Speaker A:

And you know, I pray for you guys.

Speaker A:

David, I pray for you as well.

Speaker A:

I know that you were saying, mentioning about the financial difficult, not, you know, the financial pinch that you're in.

Speaker A:

And, you know, I pray for you guys.

Speaker A:

And, you know, that's an example I like.

Speaker A:

What do you hold on to?

Speaker A:

And especially if you backslide.

Speaker A:

I just, I've just felt so guilty these last couple of days.

Speaker A:

But I just want your opinion on that, David.

Speaker A:

And if you get.

Speaker A:

Thank you for your help.

Speaker A:

Thank you for helping me out in this journey and thank you for.

Speaker A:

You do, and I'll hang up and listen.

David Spoon:

All right, my brother.

David Spoon:

Excellent, excellent call.

David Spoon:

Excellent question.

David Spoon:

And you know I love you in the Lord, so we'll go ahead and answer that question.

David Spoon:

Because what is he asking, I think is a very important part of how we engage or how we can, I should say, continue to engage with the Lord.

David Spoon:

So let's talk about the reality checks.

David Spoon:

And I don't know that a lot of people want to discuss it.

David Spoon:

You know, they just, you know, they just hang on to certain sayings.

David Spoon:

So, you know, once saved, always saved.

David Spoon:

Don't think about it, blah, blah, blah.

David Spoon:

It's like, that's not what's going on.

David Spoon:

Whenever you are having a hard time, it is your heart that is grieved.

David Spoon:

So let me make a couple of notations that you need to understand.

David Spoon:

And this is an important part of your Christian walk for everybody.

David Spoon:

I don't care if you're brand new or I don't care if you're 65, 70 years deep.

David Spoon:

That doesn't matter.

David Spoon:

When there is a grief or a grieving and you know, you're in that distance, you know, there's a chasm, you know, that you're kind of in the valley.

David Spoon:

The first and foremost thing you need to recognize.

David Spoon:

And I do this, and I do it because it's important to understand the truth.

David Spoon:

You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.

David Spoon:

And that's in John 8:32.

David Spoon:

And here's the truth.

David Spoon:

The truth is, if you weren't a Christian, you wouldn't care.

David Spoon:

And why that's important for you to understand is while we're looking at it and while we're gonna give steps to pull out of it and do a better job processing through.

David Spoon:

Right?

David Spoon:

Totally cool.

David Spoon:

Totally awesome.

David Spoon:

While we're gonna look at that, let's rest in a couple of things.

David Spoon:

There is not one sin that you have ever committed.

David Spoon:

Not before bc, before Christ, not in the beginning, not at this point, not up until he returns.

David Spoon:

There is not one thing that you will do that will catch God by surprise.

David Spoon:

So let's understand.

David Spoon:

The Lord knows everything.

David Spoon:

When you are omniscient, that means all knowledge.

David Spoon:

He knows everything.

David Spoon:

And so these things that we go through, they're surprises to us, but they're not surprises to God.

David Spoon:

And what's important for us to grasp.

David Spoon:

And there's a couple of passages that I will use, and I think they're worthwhile, worth noting.

David Spoon:

And you know them, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use them.

David Spoon:

And then I'll tell you what I go through, and so on and so forth.

David Spoon:

But in Ephesians 1:4, out of the new King James Version, it says, just as God chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.

David Spoon:

God chose you.

David Spoon:

Get this.

David Spoon:

Before there was an earth.

David Spoon:

It's before the foundation of the earth.

David Spoon:

Does that mean you're void of responsibility?

David Spoon:

No, we talked about that yesterday, and Tyler asked that question.

David Spoon:

It was an excellent question.

David Spoon:

You have a responsibility.

David Spoon:

We're not talking about that.

David Spoon:

We're just talking about God's side of this.

David Spoon:

He knew what you were going to do before you did it.

David Spoon:

He knows what you're doing while you're doing it, and he knows what you will do before you do.

David Spoon:

And he chose you anyway.

David Spoon:

He wants to spend eternity with you.

David Spoon:

And that poll, we talked about it yesterday, which I think is fascinating, that draw that thing inside of you that's like, oh, I can do better, Lord.

David Spoon:

And I already know I'm slipping up.

David Spoon:

Now, while we're slipping up, we don't tend to think that way.

David Spoon:

But when we come to our senses, remember the young man in the prodigal story?

David Spoon:

Remember, he's out there and he's feeding the pigs, and he was hungry for the food that was being given to pigs, which is really repulsive, because in the Jewish culture that's just so far out, it's not even funny.

David Spoon:

Well, there's a scripture that says that he came to his senses, or in another translation would say he realized.

David Spoon:

And that's what happens to us.

David Spoon:

We're away, we're making some distance, and then we come to our senses and go, wait a second, this isn't what God wants me to do.

David Spoon:

And it's not what I want to do because I'm hurting myself and I'm separating myself from the Lord.

David Spoon:

Bad, bad.

David Spoon:

So when that happens, I'm going to tell you what to do and how to approach it.

David Spoon:

But I want you to understand something.

David Spoon:

You are not catching God by surprise.

David Spoon:

He knows that's number one.

David Spoon:

And I want you to use this truth, the fact that you have that pull, that desire to make it right and do right, well, that's a great sign because only Christians wanna make it right.

David Spoon:

Non Christians could care less.

David Spoon:

They don't care.

David Spoon:

But now I wanna move into a little bit further process.

David Spoon:

And using even that story of the prodigal son, what does he do?

David Spoon:

He's got this whole rehearsed speech, right?

David Spoon:

He's gonna come back, he's gonna say, I'm not fit to be your kid.

David Spoon:

I'm terrible.

David Spoon:

I've been backsliding.

David Spoon:

I've been wild living.

David Spoon:

I've been doing the wrong things.

David Spoon:

I'm a dummy.

David Spoon:

And so he gets this whole speech prepared, right?

David Spoon:

In fact, I would even say to Sergio, do a good slow read on that prodigal parable.

David Spoon:

It's really, really fascinating.

David Spoon:

And so he has this whole prepared speech.

David Spoon:

He goes to see his Father.

David Spoon:

As Jesus is relating the story, he says, the Father sees him from a long way off.

David Spoon:

That's a great way of indicating God's just looking for the return time.

David Spoon:

Just come back.

David Spoon:

Just come back.

David Spoon:

The Father sees him, and then the Son does what?

David Spoon:

What does the prodigal son do?

David Spoon:

He goes into his rehearsed speech.

David Spoon:

I'm not worthy.

David Spoon:

I mean, he starts going through that, right?

David Spoon:

But the father drapes on him, pulls him close to him, hugs him, loves him, redresses him, commits to him.

David Spoon:

There is no.

David Spoon:

The speech is great.

David Spoon:

And you should probably have a speech, but you really don't need to give the speech.

David Spoon:

What you need to do is bring your heart back to the Father.

David Spoon:

That's what you need to do.

David Spoon:

And that's what repentance is.

David Spoon:

People think repentance is feeling sorry.

David Spoon:

It can have the aspect of feeling sorry.

David Spoon:

So don't misunderstand that it does have that component.

David Spoon:

But also, and primarily, repentance is realigning our thinking to follow God's thinking.

David Spoon:

It's actually changing directions.

David Spoon:

And when the prodigal realized, man, I'm just blowing this.

David Spoon:

I'm going to change direction and go home.

David Spoon:

That was the repentance.

David Spoon:

That's what people are missing, that turn.

David Spoon:

In fact, the word turn is used in conjunction with repentance so often it's not even funny.

David Spoon:

I mean, it's just used consistently.

David Spoon:

And so that turn that that prodigal son made, and every time the Lord talks to people, he says, repent, there's somewhere in the verse before or after, there's this phrase, turn, turn back to the Lord.

David Spoon:

That's what you do.

David Spoon:

You turn back and I just can't wait to show you.

David Spoon:

You're just gonna.

David Spoon:

It's gonna blow your mind.

David Spoon:

I'm gonna share with you a couple of scriptures now.

David Spoon:

What I do is I rely on God's truth, okay?

David Spoon:

I don't always feel the love of God.

David Spoon:

Can you say amen?

David Spoon:

I know I can.

David Spoon:

Because feeling the love of God is not the same as the love of God.

David Spoon:

So God loves you true?

David Spoon:

Yes.

David Spoon:

How do we know this?

David Spoon:

I know, but.

David Spoon:

Because the Bible tells me so.

David Spoon:

But my feelings sometimes are like, I don't feel the love of God.

David Spoon:

I'm not feeling it.

David Spoon:

And I've said this how many times?

David Spoon:

And you'll hear me say it for the rest of my earthly journey.

David Spoon:

Just go ahead and eat 25 tacos, 13 gorditas, 17 churros and 14 Mountain Dews, and tell me if you feel the love of God, you won't.

David Spoon:

But it doesn't change that the love of God is there.

David Spoon:

You understand that?

David Spoon:

So you got to be careful about your feelings.

David Spoon:

You don't deny your feelings, but you can't let the feelings take the lead in those kind of things.

David Spoon:

You have to live by the truth.

David Spoon:

And in fact, people say, well, on the train of your life, it should be love first and then this and this wrong.

David Spoon:

On the train of your life, it should be truth first.

David Spoon:

Because the world has perverted the word love, and we need to have biblical love first.

David Spoon:

But that's gotta be defined by biblical truth.

David Spoon:

So you have this situation in the parable.

David Spoon:

The kid makes the call coming backwards, he makes the turn.

David Spoon:

That is repentance.

David Spoon:

It's a wonderful thing to know that God has already is already aware that we took a step to the left or to the right, not in the right direction.

David Spoon:

In fact, the Bible says, turn not to the left or the right.

David Spoon:

Everybody's like, oh, look at what it says about the.

David Spoon:

Yeah, well, there's Deuteronomy 5, 32.

David Spoon:

It says, Turn not to the right or the left.

David Spoon:

So just be aware of that.

David Spoon:

Okay, but listen to what Paul says.

David Spoon:

There's two things that I'm going to share that are just phenomenal.

David Spoon:

The first one's in 1 Corinthians 1:7:8, says this so that you come short in no gift, eagerly awaiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, verse 8, who will also confirm you to the end that you may be blameless in the day of Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

In other words, God is not done working on you.

David Spoon:

I just wrote this.

David Spoon:

Dd Out.

David Spoon:

Ddd Wait.

David Spoon:

Dd dddd out last night with this verse.

David Spoon:

Think that's an accident?

David Spoon:

Bet it's not.

David Spoon:

So you come short in no gift, 1 Corinthians 17:8, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

And by the way, that revelation is the coming of Christ, the second coming, verse eight, who will also confirm you to the end.

David Spoon:

What's God going to do?

David Spoon:

He's going to confirm you.

David Spoon:

And you're sitting there thinking, well, now, Dave, you have other scriptures that can back that up?

David Spoon:

You know I do.

David Spoon:

Why would you even ask that question?

David Spoon:

How about this one, Philippians 1:6?

David Spoon:

Being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will complete it unto the day of Christ.

David Spoon:

Can we at least get an amen that it is God who has begun the work in us, and it is God who will complete it.

David Spoon:

And it is God who is the author and finisher of our faith.

David Spoon:

And the author writes the book, and the finisher is the closer.

David Spoon:

You know baseball, what happens in baseball, you win in the game, you bring in the closer, it's over, right?

David Spoon:

Jesus is the closer.

David Spoon:

And so we go through this process, and it's not abnormal.

David Spoon:

And so what people struggle with is, you know, it's.

David Spoon:

To what level is that backsliding?

David Spoon:

Is a backsliding.

David Spoon:

Go to the level of apostasy?

David Spoon:

No, those are actually two different words.

David Spoon:

And when it does, say in Galatians, you fell from the grace of God, it doesn't mean you can never get back to the grace of God.

David Spoon:

It means you used to be at the grace of God and then you fell in context, because they were trying to depend on works.

David Spoon:

That has nothing to do with it.

David Spoon:

Nice try.

David Spoon:

Keep it all together, please.

David Spoon:

Here's what I'm trying to tell you.

David Spoon:

The Lord loves us, and when he picked us, he didn't go, gee, I.

David Spoon:

I hope they don't mess up.

David Spoon:

I know everything they're going to do, but I just hope they don't blow it.

David Spoon:

That is not how God is operating.

David Spoon:

God gives us all the tools that we need to walk in the new man.

David Spoon:

Unfortunately, many of us with all these wonderful tools don't do it as often as we should.

David Spoon:

But every time you come to a place where you realize, I'm doing this wrong and I need to get my life, I need to get my BFN in the book, I get my heart in prayer.

David Spoon:

I gotta get myself back in the Presence of God.

David Spoon:

I gotta get this thing squared away because I'm way off.

David Spoon:

Every time that happens, you grow a little stronger in your faith because you know what?

David Spoon:

You know, God is there.

David Spoon:

God is there for you.

David Spoon:

And let me tell you what I do.

David Spoon:

And I'm just going to give you my take.

David Spoon:

This is just all on the top and off the cuff.

David Spoon:

And I know that, Sergio, it's probably a lot deeper than maybe you were thinking I was going to go, but that's okay.

David Spoon:

Let's just roll with it.

David Spoon:

What I do when I blow it and I blow it.

David Spoon:

So if people out there going, oh, you probably know when I do something wrong, to me it's magnified just like it is to you.

David Spoon:

It's not worse, it's.

David Spoon:

It's not better, it's not this, it's not that.

David Spoon:

It's none of that.

David Spoon:

I blow it.

David Spoon:

I know it.

David Spoon:

The standard is, God, I'm going to come.

David Spoon:

And that is why grace is there, so you can understand.

David Spoon:

It's because without that, we just wouldn't have a chance.

David Spoon:

That's the truth of the matter.

David Spoon:

And so I use this Sergio before I use any particular overall text, although I do use Ephesians 1:4 quite a bit, and I do use Philippians 1:6.

David Spoon:

And that's the being confident of this one thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ.

David Spoon:

I use that because it's my confidence in God's promise that he's not going to quit on me.

David Spoon:

hat I use most is the Hebrews:

David Spoon:

Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which he consecrated for us through the veil that is his flesh.

David Spoon:

And having a high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

David Spoon:

And let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering.

David Spoon:

For he who promised is faithful.

David Spoon:

That's Hebrews:

David Spoon:

And I use that and hold onto that and recognize I can access the holy of Holies, the very presence of God, because of the blood of Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

And in the Old Testament, the high priest could only enter once a year, dealing with sin.

David Spoon:

And instead of being like Adam and Eve who ran in, hid, Jesus has made it so that when we're struggling with sin, we should run to God and Seek his help.

David Spoon:

The exact opposite of what Adam and Eve did.

David Spoon:

And that desire to do that and to operate in that is the proof of the new person that's in you.

David Spoon:

Because the old man runs and hides, but the new man runs to God and says, help me, because I need your help.

David Spoon:

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

David Spoon:

It's another phenomenal statement.

David Spoon:

It's not even my statement, so I just want to say that.

David Spoon:

But Jesus is a better savior than.

David Spoon:

You are a sinner, and he doesn't pick poorly.

David Spoon:

You have a responsibility to turn your face back towards the Lord.

David Spoon:

You have a responsibility, now that you've come to that realization, to turn to God.

David Spoon:

He's waiting.

David Spoon:

James 4.

David Spoon:

8 says, Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.

David Spoon:

He didn't pick you.

David Spoon:

Just like throwing darts, he wants to spend eternity with you.

David Spoon:

He loves you, and he waits for you and I to petition towards him and acknowledge and surrender.

David Spoon:

So all of that, and you're thinking, well, will he forgive me?

David Spoon:

Well, if Jesus teaches the lesson that we're supposed to give 70 times 7, what do you think he's trying to communicate?

David Spoon:

The key is to turn, to repent, to change your thinking back to the Lord, to surrender and to call upon him.

David Spoon:

Here's another passage.

David Spoon:

This is just the most wonderful things.

David Spoon:

I mean, you just got me rolling now.

David Spoon:

Hebrews 4:16.

David Spoon:

You just can't beat this stuff.

David Spoon:

I mean, it's just like.

David Spoon:

It's just phenomenal.

David Spoon:

Listen to this passage.

David Spoon:

It's like, incredible, right?

David Spoon:

Listen to this.

David Spoon:

For we.

David Spoon:

I'm sorry, it's 4:16.

David Spoon:

Actually, I'm giving you the wrong verse.

David Spoon:

That's 5.

David Spoon:

See, I'm not always that good.

David Spoon:

Here's the passage.

David Spoon:

Coming to the throne of God with confidence.

David Spoon:

The throne of grace with confidence.

David Spoon:

Coming to the throne of grace with confidence.

David Spoon:

Receiving his mercy and finding grace in our time of need.

David Spoon:

That is Hebrews 4:16.

David Spoon:

Let me do.

David Spoon:

We'll go 10 seconds over.

David Spoon:

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we might obtain mercy and find grace to help in our time of need.

David Spoon:

Hebrews 4:16.

David Spoon:

That, my friends, is how you respond to some backsliding in your life.

David Spoon:

Okay?

David Spoon:

Just being honest and keeping it real.

David Spoon:

All right, folks, we'll take our break and then come back.

David Spoon:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

Short break, we'll be back.

David Spoon:

Don't go anywhere.

David Spoon:

What is the David Spoon Experience?

Speaker C:

When you are in the presence of the Lord and his presence is strengthening you.

Speaker C:

And we talked about that can happen through the word of God, through, through prayer and through fellowship.

Speaker C:

And then you go through some process where somebody sends you a text, or somebody sends you a letter, or somebody calls you, or somebody sends you an email, or somebody looks at you funny, or somebody kind of glances, or somebody says something about you, or you hear something about yourself, or you eat the wrong kind of tacos and you just feel bad.

Speaker C:

And the joy is sucking away at the moment.

Speaker C:

Here is the answer.

Speaker C:

While the devil is trying to take your joy away, here is the key.

Speaker C:

For the next 365 days for your life.

Speaker C:

When the devil takes the joy away by robbing you, you go back into the presence of God again.

Speaker C:

When the devil comes in and robs you and takes that joy, will you get up off your duff or your blessed assurance and you go into the presence of God again.

Speaker C:

Be it prayer, be it Bible, be it fellowship, be it worship, be it whatever, I don't care.

David Spoon:

Get up and get back in the.

Speaker C:

Presence of God again.

Speaker C:

And when the devil comes around the second time and knocks on your door and you open it and he takes it from you again, then you get off your blessed assurance again and you get back into the presence of.

Speaker C:

Of God again.

Speaker C:

And when he does it a third time, you do it again.

Speaker C:

And when he does it a fourth time, you do it again.

Speaker C:

Because the strength of the Lord is in the joy of the Lord, which is found in the presence of the Lord.

Speaker C:

And when he comes a robbing, you go to refill when the tank is empty, put gas in it.

Speaker C:

When you're depleted, fill it up.

Speaker C:

You think, well, I can't do that.

David Spoon:

Why not?

Speaker C:

You did it the first time.

Speaker C:

Yes, but that was special.

David Spoon:

Why?

Speaker C:

Because you tried try again, but you don't understand.

Speaker C:

No, I don't care.

Speaker C:

That's much, much more heartless to say that.

Speaker C:

Huh?

David Spoon:

That's a good one.

Speaker C:

I don't care.

Speaker C:

It doesn't matter.

Speaker C:

I care about the truth.

Speaker C:

I don't care about somebody's.

David Spoon:

Well, my perception.

David Spoon:

Well, good for you.

David Spoon:

God bless you.

Speaker C:

When you can figure out that you can argue with God, let me know how that goes.

Speaker C:

If you win that argument, you come back, you can take the throne, but you ain't going to win it.

Speaker C:

So when the enemy comes and he comes to stealing, you do exactly what you need to do to take it back.

Speaker C:

If he steals from you, you take it right back.

David Spoon:

Why?

Speaker C:

Because you can.

Speaker C:

Because he's not empowered to keep it from you.

Speaker C:

He's empowered to take it momentarily.

Speaker C:

You're empowered to take it right back.

Speaker C:

Take it.

David Spoon

David Spoon was born and raised in a Jewish home in Detroit, Michigan. He attended a private Hebrew school called Hillel Hebrew Academy. David was bar mitzvah-ed at the age of thirteen. Not long after, he was involved in drug abuse and trafficking. After hearing the Gospel for the first time at age seventeen, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. A few months later, David had a dramatic experience with God. Immediately set free from years of excessive drug use, he committed himself to ministry and to furthering the Kingdom of God.

He attended Arizona Bible College, Northern Arizona University, and Life Pacific College, graduating summa-cum-laude in their Ministry and Leadership program. He also graduated with honors from Regent University with a master’s degree in Theological Studies and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Strategic Christian Ministry at Liberty University.

He is one of a few individuals holding ministerial ordinations from three separate denominations: Heritage Free Baptist Organization, 1981; Independent Pentecostal Ministers Association, 1985; and Vineyard Valley Association, 1988. He was also the Chaplain for the Flagstaff Police Department. In addition, David was the senior pastor of Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Flagstaff.

In addition, David started and co-hosted two different live Christian call-in radio talk shows. He hosted the very popular radio show “The David Spoon Experience” on KPRZ 1210 and a show called “To Know Him,” which aired on 88.9 on the F.M. dial-in Temecula, California at 1:00 p.m., Monday through Fridays. He was also the Director of Local Ministry for Salem Media Group in San Diego, California.

David is married to his best friend, Noelle. He has three children and seven grandchildren, plus their two dogs named Levi and Bert. On March 18th, 2019, he started “The David Spoon Experience” in Texas and is growing with his audience of awesome believers and non-believers alike.

He is the President of He Must Increase Ministry, a 501c3 ministry, and is hosting (again) the live daily radio show “The David Spoon Experience” with DJR Broadcasting in KAAM, on the 770 A.M. radio dial. The show is also on various apps and the Internet.

David is a Jewish-Christian, Bapti-Costal, Cal-Minian, Manifold Millennialist.

Just ask him.
