10-15-2026 PART 3: When God Drafts You, His Purpose Becomes Your Assignment

Section 1

Reviewing 1 Corinthians 9, Dr. Dave explores the fascinating difference between voluntarily entering ministry and being specifically drafted by God for an assignment. The apostle Paul explains that preaching the gospel was not simply his personal preference but a responsibility entrusted to him by the Lord. While some believers joyfully volunteer their service, others experience an overwhelming divine calling that becomes impossible to ignore. Dr. Dave shares his own experience after moving from San Diego to Texas, leaving behind a growing radio ministry. Despite submitting approximately 200 job applications, nothing opened up. During those difficult months, his dear friend Pastor Ray Bentley called and insisted that he return to radio ministry. Within days, Dr. Dave was back behind a microphone, discovering that God's calling had never disappeared.

Section 2

An important connection emerges through Philippians 2:13, which teaches that God works within believers both to desire and accomplish His good pleasure. Dr. Dave explains that the Lord does not merely give assignments; He places the desire to fulfill those assignments within His people. Sometimes that calling involves circumstances we do not understand until much later. He shares the remarkable experience of his friend Rob, who felt compelled to continue working a beverage delivery job despite wanting to leave. One day, Rob encountered a man suffering a heart attack and called 911, helping save his life. Shortly afterward, that season of employment ended. What appeared to be an ordinary, frustrating job had positioned him precisely where God wanted him. Divine assignments are not always obvious, but God's purposes remain intentional.

Section 3

Continuing through 1 Corinthians 9:18, Dr. Dave highlights Paul's decision to preach the gospel without charging those receiving his ministry. Although Paul possessed legitimate rights to financial support, he willingly surrendered them as part of his particular calling. However, Dr. Dave emphasizes that this approach was not a universal requirement for every minister. Different people receive different assignments, and ministry responsibilities vary according to circumstances, opportunities, and God's direction. Some serve full-time, others part-time, and many balance employment with ministry responsibilities. Rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all standard, believers should recognize the Lord's individual direction and appreciate those faithfully serving Him. Dr. Dave closes by encouraging listeners to express gratitude to their pastors and ministry leaders. The greatest fulfillment comes not from choosing the assignment we prefer, but from faithfully accomplishing the purpose God has placed within our hearts.

David Spoon

David Spoon was born and raised in a Jewish home in Detroit, Michigan. He attended a private Hebrew school called Hillel Hebrew Academy. David was bar mitzvah-ed at the age of thirteen. Not long after, he was involved in drug abuse and trafficking. After hearing the Gospel for the first time at age seventeen, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. A few months later, David had a dramatic experience with God. Immediately set free from years of excessive drug use, he committed himself to ministry and to furthering the Kingdom of God.

He attended Arizona Bible College, Northern Arizona University, and Life Pacific College, graduating summa-cum-laude in their Ministry and Leadership program. He also graduated with honors from Regent University with a master’s degree in Theological Studies and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Strategic Christian Ministry at Liberty University.

He is one of a few individuals holding ministerial ordinations from three separate denominations: Heritage Free Baptist Organization, 1981; Independent Pentecostal Ministers Association, 1985; and Vineyard Valley Association, 1988. He was also the Chaplain for the Flagstaff Police Department. In addition, David was the senior pastor of Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Flagstaff.

In addition, David started and co-hosted two different live Christian call-in radio talk shows. He hosted the very popular radio show “The David Spoon Experience” on KPRZ 1210 and a show called “To Know Him,” which aired on 88.9 on the F.M. dial-in Temecula, California at 1:00 p.m., Monday through Fridays. He was also the Director of Local Ministry for Salem Media Group in San Diego, California.

David is married to his best friend, Noelle. He has three children and seven grandchildren, plus their two dogs named Levi and Bert. On March 18th, 2019, he started “The David Spoon Experience” in Texas and is growing with his audience of awesome believers and non-believers alike.

He is the President of He Must Increase Ministry, a 501c3 ministry, and is hosting (again) the live daily radio show “The David Spoon Experience” with DJR Broadcasting in KAAM, on the 770 A.M. radio dial. The show is also on various apps and the Internet.
