10-06-2026 PART 2: Becoming More Like Jesus, One Step at a Time
Section 1
Peter’s journey itself becomes part of the lesson. Dr. Dave points out that Peter was not the highly educated scholar Paul was, and the Gospels certainly record moments when Peter spoke or acted foolishly. Yet by the time he writes this epistle, remarkable spiritual maturity is evident. 10062026B In 1 Peter 3:18, he declares that Christ suffered once for sins, “the righteous for the unrighteous,” for one magnificent purpose: to bring us to God. Jesus is therefore not an optional addition to knowing God; He is the One who brings us into relationship with the Father. The Father works through the Son and by the Spirit, revealing the Creator and His truth to us. Peter’s transformed life also demonstrates what can happen when an imperfect person keeps walking with Jesus and allows God to continue developing him.
Section 2
Suffering for Christ becomes part of that transformation. Jesus suffered as the completely righteous One on behalf of unrighteous people, something none of us can duplicate, yet His pathway teaches believers how to follow Him. When Christians experience trials specifically because of their faith, those experiences can uniquely connect them with Jesus and shape them increasingly into His likeness. 10062026B Dr. Dave describes this transformation as practical and progressive: glory by glory, step by step, trial by trial, and inch by inch. Christianity is therefore not about demanding a crown on this earth while avoiding every cross. Earthly authority and possessions eventually disappear, while eternal treasure remains. The believer’s greater investment belongs in the coming kingdom, where what has been laid up with God will never disappear.
Section 3
Peter then points toward another extraordinary reality: Jesus was put to death physically but made alive in the Spirit. Dr. Dave emphasizes that the Holy Spirit should never be treated as some strange or distant part of Christianity. Everything believers presently accomplish in Christ is empowered by the Spirit, who was poured out to continue Christ’s ministry through His people. 10062026B We do not need to understand every mystery about God before trusting His work; some things still belong to the Lord. Yet believers can confidently know that the Holy Spirit who participated in resurrection power is the same Spirit dwelling within them. Meanwhile, Jesus is at the Father’s right hand interceding for His people. The Christian journey is not about becoming impressive overnight; it is about the Spirit making us more like Jesus—step by step, trial by trial, and glory by glory.
